I think the outside looks like a mess.
To clear up confusion, it is not a bar, it is an ice cream parlour, so I imagine it was designed to look "fun" for children. There was a long lineup outside it the day I saw it, so I guess it is successful!

By the way, the bar/restaurant you posted is beautiful.

I figured today I would seek out a genuine, bona-fide 1970 style Toronto bar, and found the perfect one. Paddington's Pump has hardly changed one iota in the past quarter century, complete with "Fat Albert" lights above the bar, and 1970's lettering for the name! It is located in our much beloved St Lawrence Market, which has been a market on this site since 1803:

fancy-shmancy patio on the side, but at a very humid 32c, I was happy to sit in air
conditioned comfort inside!!

One of our old Toronto sandwich specialities that you won't find in any other Canadian city is our peameal-bacon sandwiches (or as they are sometimes affectionately called: "Oink on a Bun"). They aren't really a local invention, but rather are a tradition from colonial days. In England they are called several names; in the North you would call them Bacon Butties. They are also called Bacon Sarnies, and even sometimes Bacon Barms (a barm cake being roughly what we call a Kaiser Roll). Ours are pretty much the same, except we would never butter the bun, first. They are hot, and melt in your mouth delicious:

I could barely pause to snap a photo:

It was tempting... nice and cool and quiet, and the bartender was a very sweet girl. An all round enjoyable stop. I noticed they had a nice selection of Ontario microbreweries on draught, too.

Last weekend I went to an old area of town called The Distillery District, which is the site of an 1832 whisky distillery that was once the largest in the British Empire. I visited the Mill Street Brew Pub, which I would say is a very typical Canadian/Toronto style pub, excepting that they brew their own beer:

they brew a LOT of different types of beer:

I had the most magnificent Pie n' Peas ever....a Steak and Stilton pie, with the beef braised in their Cobblestone Stout, with button mushrooms and Stilton cheese. The crust was light as a feather, and green peas that tasted fresh. The mashed Yukon Gold potatoes had a gravy made with their Coffee Porter:

My beer choice was a delicious Stock Ale, which is made the way blonde ales were 100 years ago. Indeed a most satisfying early supper. Here is a painting of the Distillery in its Victorian heyday:

Another time went to a little pub I stumbled upon last summer, very hidden away on a sleepy little canal. The Keating Channel pub:

It attracts a casual crowd and is a peaceful place to sit:

an ad for one of our older Canadian beers, dating back to 1831:

It would be great fun if anyone does take pics! I'm sure a lot of pubs don't allow any cameras, though...

Yeah it's like a lobster trap for drunks.

The bars owner decided to leave the floor as is, after the earthquake caused the floor to drop in some places.
