I have the same question....Does anybody know what is the material used for exterior....It kinda looks like a concrete exterior from the render.....It'd be better if they used glass.

That render doesn't look anything like concrete exterior. It is visibly glass cladding, possibly with some sort of steel.

some new info on this project

Oberoi Realty Ropes in Samsung C&T Corporation for its Luxury Project in Mumbai

eal estate firm Oberoi Realty has brought on board Samsung C&T Corporation as its general contractor for its ambitious mixed-use, high-rise luxury project in Worli, Mumbai. The deal marks the entry of Samsung C&T, which has constructed many of the world’s tallest landmarks including Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur and Burj Khalifa in Dubai, in the Indian real estate space.

“This association will enable us to strengthen and grow our vision of bringing the best international construction practices to India and contribute one more landmark to the skyline of Mumbai,” Vikas Oberoi, chairman and managing director, Oberoi Realty, told DNA. To be developed by Oasis Realty, a joint venture between Sahana and Oberoi Realty, the development will feature a luxury hotel, luxurious branded residence (managed by a hotel operator) and high-end commercial office space with a likelihood of luxury retailing area.

The hotel and branded residences, industry sources were quoted as saying, will likely be operated by luxury hotel company, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. YeonJoo Jung, president and CEO, Samsung C&T, said the deal was a remarkable milestone for the company as it would be their first such project in India. “We apply extensive experience, expertise and knowledge in construction and project management especially for high rise buildings, therefore the successful completion of this iconic building would also be vital for our future growth in the Indian market,” said Jung.

The Oberoi project is likely to be launched this October. Sources said details of the Oberoi project have not been made public as yet because, “the developer is still in the process of getting a clear picture on the floor space index allocation for it”.

Haven't they got all the necessary permissions???.....seeing the present trend going in Mumbai i don't think it will be completed as planned without any reduction in height.......

This is the conversation happened b/w a reporter and vikas oberoi (chairman and MD of oberoi realty) in aug 3rd 2011

http://www.oberoirealty.com/pdf/2011...Aug03-2011.pdf (page 8)

Quote:
Vikas Rungta: My last question, in terms of your Worli project, what is the status of the approval?
Vikas Oberoi: We have already got approval. I hope you are talking about the Worli project that we have given to
Samsung.
Vikas Rungta: Right.
Vikas Oberoi: The approvals are in place. We have dug the ground and as we speak working on the site, we have given a
contract to Samsung, now we are waiting for the hotel contract to be signed, so that branded residency comes into play
and if not the next quarter, the quarter after that you will see sales happening there as well. You might even see in the
next quarter, which we will launch and start selling then.
Vikas Rungta: So IOD, CC and High rise committee?
Vikas Oberoi: Everything is done including your environment clearance.
Vikas Rungta: Thank you sir, wish you all the best.

This was the design that Callison had pitched to the Oberois:

INDIA MIXED-USE PROJECT
Beacon by the sea

Rising up from Mumbai’s high-end Worli district, this mixed-use project maximizes a 2.75 acre site with seamlessly integrated functions. Taking advantage of panoramic views of the Arabian Sea, the upper floors feature a hotel with an infinity pool at the 74th floor above modern residential units. Topping the 90+ story tower, a luminous "sail" feature pays homage to the sea while creating an iconic profile in the crowded Mumbai skyline. Luxury retail and Class A offices at the base maximize the site’s prominent location.

Even if it was 90 floors, the official design is much better. I'm sick of these wall like buildings.

Mr. Oberoi says in the interview that construction time is 55 months = 4 yrs 7 months. Has work been going on for a few months already? In that case the building could be complete by 2016. Seems like a long time.

I dont like this design. Too little glass for a mixed use building. The top bit is allright though. I dont think it will be completed in 2016. Its far too long a construction period. Considering foundation work should start soon.

Usually earth work (excavation) will be given to some other contractor.

I dont think theres a lot of steal in the cladding. But could be wrong not a clear render. Theres deffinitely glass in there by the looks of things. Facade looks slightly similar to Rubys infact.

Obviously there's no steal in the cladding yet coz it hasn't started coming up yet. But may be when it comes up, they may steal the steel cladding. Who knows. Hathoda...
