340 East Randolph
![]() Okay, well I went to the sales center of 340 On the Park this afternoon. It was nice, they had a nice model, and I got the chance to ask a few questions. The building is going to be 62-storys and 640' (The number of floors and the height won't be changing) The building is going to have between 340-345 residential units, about 150 of those are reserved, which is bit more than 1/3. In order to reserve a unit the standard seems to be 10% down. I was told that they hope to break ground before years end, and hope to be completed possibly by the middle of 2007 early 2008. The building is going to have a rigid concrete frame, with a steel supergrid every 5 floors. The building will have a glass and metal facade. And of course it's going to be LEED Certified, the first residential building in Chicago to do so. Here are a couple of model shots View looking to the north View looking to the south View looking to the west View looking to the northwest That's about all I got on this one. |

Well, if BCBS ever get envious, they can always remove the roof, add 30 more stories (Or how ever many floors they designed the foundation to handle. BCBS was designed to allow it to be jacked up to ~70 stories), replace roof, and poof! You're now looking down on 340 by the Park.

^Blue Cross Blue Shield was designed so that 24 more floors could be built atop it.
The building will end up being between 720'-750' if ever expanded. Last edited by BVictor1; September 26th, 2004 at 09:28 PM. |

^How many floors does it have now, I read the total floors could be about 60-70, but I don't remember the exact number.

That's crazy... I had no idea. They shouldn't touch the height though... it's one of the most perfect buildings in the city as is!

from what i read in the skyscrapers of the next millenium book that the art institute put out with that skyscraper exhibit it did several years ago, BCBS currently stands 32 stories tall and it was designed to accept 2 12 story additions if the need should ever arise in the future, bringing the the tower to a total of 56 stories. the gigantic full height atrium on the northside of the building is the space reserved for future elevator banks if they ever build any of the additions.

Once this is built, my office window view of Lake Michigan will finally be gone. I am able to look between BCBS and the Buckingham and see the lake as well as part of Navy Pier. The Lancaster and Shoreman have already reduced this view. Only a couple more years and there will be nothing left
