well, can you at least show us some picture for comparison?

Bcos I think that render blends in well with the facade of the other buildings in KLCC area designed by Cesar Pelli, which are Petronas Twin Towers, Cititower (Fairmont), and Petronas Tower 3 (Carigali HQ)

So, I will not be surprised if that render is actually designed by Cesar Pelli.

As impressive as all of these proposals are - but is there really that much demand for so many megatalls in KL?

Malaysia's economy certainly enjoys a healthy growth, but they have almost as many megatalls in the pipeline as China (a country with a population of 1.3 billion and a GDP of $12 trillion)

1 megatall under construction, 2 under proposals.

For pnb118, it will house the owner company(biggest asset management in Malaysia) and its dozens subsidiaries for most of the floors. If im not mistaken 70% is already allocated for them, the rest of the floors would be for a hotel and other MNCs.

For this klcc east tower project, it will belong to the owner of petronas tower which also owns the park, the towers/buildings around it ,the convention centre, the few hotels (mandarin oriental(completed), fairmont (u/c)surrounding it. You would be surprised if we told you that the PTTs, and other towers they own register almost 100% occupancy rate throughout the years. On the bad year like last year due to plunging oil price, they recorded a 96% occupancy rate. This place is basically the most sought after address in Malaysia for residence and also corporations. So with better economic growth, i think they'll manage to attract MNCs to station there.

For tradewinds square, from what i heard the project is postponed to a later date after learning that the gov wanted to build pnb118. But tradewinds corp (or more precisely the owner) is a big conglomerate that has a diverse range of Businesses from making sugar to building cars to operating ports to building MRTs etc. So i think the idea is similar to pnb118, build a very tall tower for your company and subsidiaries for most of the floors, with retail podium and a few other levels for hotel and other companies.

"...as many megatalls as China.."

Well, I doubt that's the case, while China is certainly in the midst of their economic boom and has been churning out skyscrapers for a hefty while now I'm quite sure that the gap between KL and China's megatall count would remain considerably large considering the proposals they have in their spare pockets for the next 10-20 years or so.The most I could see out of KL is the increasing amount of supertalls mushrooming in and around KL especially near the city centres.

And as Paulentino has fantastically expounded, the KLCC area seems to have impunity no matter how challenging the times are so the developments planned and u/c there should pose no implications(hopefully). And yeah, Tradewinds is a corporate conglomerate and is one of the top big bucks of Malaysia so this development is justified (to them) by their continual growth in the various segments they're involved in . Although I doubt they'd continue with it for at least a couple of years until other nearby/big projects are topped off and opened.

China has one megatall. A second one under construction. "As many" isn't really a huge number.

Well....sh*t that's not a whole lot ain't it?

Guess it's supertall gallore for China

EDIT:Wait a minute I just double checked on wiki and China already has TWO megatalls with at least three more in the pipeline. So my statement wasn't that far-fetched after all!China gonna have 5 megatalls in <10 years...at least

EDIT NO.2:Oh, my bad then.Still, China will prolly' hold the title for most megatalls in the near future

I didn't check but Wikipedia isn't updated on skyscrapers often enough and might not have the height cut for PingAn Finance Center yet. Not many skyscraper nerds being editors there apparently so there's an extreme amount of really outdated information.

Anyway, a lot of people don't realise that while we live in the age where megatalls became a thing, we don't really have all too many yet. There's three finished megatall buildings on the entire planet right now - Burj Khalifa, Shanghai Tower and Abraj Al Bait, and that's all of them. Two freestanding structures besides that, Tokyo Sky Tree and Canton Tower. And two megatall buildings relatively far into construction, Jeddah Tower and Wuhan Greenland Center. Megatalls are a new thing and so far we just got a small handful.

The number of supertalls doesn't really correlate with economic might, take some of the most productive cities in terms of GDP, London, Tokyo, Paris.

Also it's not that expensive to build a supertall.

I'm guessing the justification of a supertall is due to geographical and infrastructure issues. Hong Kong/Manhattan have limited land availability, London has an old and reliable public transport system that will connect services in a city. It would be a good idea in KL to build high density offices accessible by public transport all clustered in the city so ppl can do business easily in less traffic, increasing productivity..

My two cents.

That said, PLEASE BUILD THIS THING!

Less llikely since they had spent a lot of money for demolition.
I prefer this project to be downsized to its original proposal which was +300 meter twin towers.
The plot is quite small for a 775 meter megatall and close to Petronas towers

I guess this means you do not want anything in the district this site is in to overshadow the Petronas Twin Towers. This comment just makes me curious as to why a megatall building was proposed for that site.

At the same time, considering what has already been demolished (a large hotel and a small office building), something not less than 400 metres would be more appropriate.

Yes. If the design is more iconic, I would be in for it.
I just wish they review the design since they're planning to make it taller than Petronas.

I agree. It's like the "big three" in Shanghai, every time they built taller than the previous iconic tower, they made sure the design of the next one is more iconic. A megatall next to Petronas Towers needs to have the best possible design.
