Slipped my mind.. the flyover pillars for the new Seletar Aerospace flyover across TPE is up as of 1 month ago. They're also doing some sort of concrete structure on the north site which I believe would be the new slip roads.

Is it me, or is there an extra arm on the Toa Payoh North flyover that I'm unaware of? I quite dislike the new flyover as it just a completely new viaduct for that stream of traffic, but there are way too many constraints in the area.

Don't think so. Other than the new flyover, everything else reflects what it looks like right now.

I had no idea Braddell Rd going east had an extra loop at the top going around the trumpet. I guess I haven't been back in ages!

Oops, sorry, that part is definitely not right. That road does not exist. An error on the part of the artist.

All these flyovers for these out-of-city areas... it's making things so unnecessarily chaotic! Those were the days when Braddell Road was just a simple 6 lane dual carriageway!

I guess it is to encourage people to use this alternative route instead of the expressways.

An SI has gone up at the junction of Sime and Lornie Road, presumably for the new bukit brown road. Exhumation banners have also gone up at this junction, and another at the Andrew Road junction.

Some changes to some ERP gantries.

Quote:
Changes to Saturday ERP charges, times for Orchard & Bugis-Marina
Posted: 28 May 2012 1329 hrs

SINGAPORE: The operating hours for electronic road pricing (ERP) on Saturdays for the Orchard cordon will be reduced from June 2.

They will start later - at 12.30pm, instead of 11.00am.

Nine gantries will be affected.

Currently, motorists pay S$1.

The ERP rates for the Bugis-Marina Centre cordon on Saturdays will be reduced - from S$2 to S$1 between 12.30pm and 2.00pm, and between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.

They affect 13 gantries.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Monday that based on its assessment of the existing traffic conditions in the two ERP cordons, ERP is still needed on Saturdays to manage traffic congestion.

However, since most motorists drive into the two cordons on weekends largely for shopping or leisure, there is scope to fine-tune the ERP operating hours and charges to give greater choice to motorists.

The LTA said some motorists may be prepared to accept roads that are slightly more congested, without having to pay ERP charges.

Others are prepared to pay for a better travelling experience.

Some news regarding the fare review.

Quote:
New public transport fare review committee
By Sharon See | Posted: 04 June 2012 1158 hrs

SINGAPORE: The government has appointed a 13-member committee to look into the public transport fare adjustment formula and the framework for fare adjustments.

The committee comprises members from the Public Transport Council, academia, consumer association, labour movement, as well as the private and people sectors.

The Fare Review Mechanism Committee is chaired by Mr Richard Magnus, chairman of the Casino Regulatory Authority and member of the Public Transport Council.

In its statement, the Transport Ministry outlined the terms of reference for the committee.

The committee will review the effectiveness of the current fare adjustment formula and propose improvements.

The revised fare review framework should balance keeping public transport fares affordable with the long-term viability of the public transport operators, while encouraging operators to be efficient and encourage productivity improvement.

The committee will also have to ensure that the views of key stakeholders are adequately represented.

In a post on the committee's website, Mr Magnus said the committee will be working towards a revised fare review framework that will balance keeping public transport fares affordable, especially for those from low-income households, while ensuring that public transport operators remain viable as commercial entities.

He added that finding the right balance is not easy, but the committee is committed to doing the best it can.

Consumers Association of Singapore executive director Mr Seah Seng Choon, who is also one of the committee members, said: "The wages and the economic situation have changed, and I suppose we want to make sure that the formula is still relevant to the current situation. Consumers' interest will always be important and obviously, we will have to balance this interest against the interest of all other stakeholders in the industry."

MOT said the committee is expected to present its recommendations to the Transport Minister early 2013.

The public can also give their views to the committee at FRMCommittee2012@gmail.com or by post by August 12.

More information on the committee and its work can be found at this website.

An interesting news about a SMRT bus.

Quote:
SMRT bus windscreen shatters, no one injured
Posted: 04 June 2012 2042 hrs

SINGAPORE: The windscreen of an SMRT bus apparently shattered on Monday while the vehicle was travelling on the expressway.

Channel NewsAsia viewer Yi Chengwu said he was on the bus service 969 travelling from Tampines to Woodlands.

At about 6pm, on the Seletar Expressway, he said passengers heard a "big noise, like a gunshot".

He said the windscreen on the left hand side of the bus cracked and bits of glass started to drop.

The bus travelled for about 10 to 15 minutes before passengers were asked to alight at Khatib MRT station.

SMRT said 50 passengers were transferred to another bus so they could continue their journey.

It added that no one was injured and it's investigating the incident.

thanks Mith! plenty of shatterings on SMRT assets eh?

jokes aside, I still hope the fare mechanism review committee will consider revising Distance Fares rules on trains and switching from JC/tertiary concessions to one based on age. how else they derive the fare mechanism will mean small yearly increases like our universities anyway unless they can really pull something off that will encourage productivity.

Hmm, isn't this similar to the incident in China where a bus driver was struck by flying debris while driving a bus on the expressway?

Here's a news article on the incident in China: http://news.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne...04-350362.html

It was. It is just that it did not hit the driver as it is on the right side for Singapore buses. In a way, he is lucky.

SINGAPORE: A section of Tampines Expressway (TPE) between Jalan Kayu and Punggol Way will be closed to traffic on Saturday from midnight to 5am for road widening works.

The Housing and Development Board said on Wednesday that during the temporary closure, a beam for widening of the existing TPE bridge will be launched.

Motorists heading towards Tampines travelling on TPE (KPE) should use alternative routes along Jalan Kayu, Sengkang West Way, Sengkang East Road, and TPE (KPE).

Blinking lights, barricades and diversion signs will also be put up to guide motorists.
