Azerbaijan to introduce urgently European standards in tourist facilities

Next year Azerbaijan is likely to develop much its tourism industry in connection with Eurovision Song Contest.

Aydin Ismiyev, head of Tourism Office of the Ministry of Culture & Tourism of Azerbaijan, informs that European countries are a priority in the tourism sector of the country, and contest Eurovision 2012 will contribute to serious growth of the sector due to the huge influx of those who wish to visit the contest.

"During the year we will carry out preparatory work and take all appropriate measures to provide quality services to tourists to come coming to Eurovision 2012," Ismiyev said.

Arrival of 50,000-100,000 tourists in the country is expected in connection with the contest. At that, CIS countries’ citizens will not need visas for that, while citizens of other European countries can obtain visas through travel agencies in the country. In connection with Eurovision 2012, Baku, where the hotels can accommodate only 3,000-4,000 people at a time, will have to go for radical development of tourism infrastructure (including hotels and restaurants), optimize transportation system, organize information systems in English language, including in urban transport.

Poor quality of service is one of the most serious problems of the tourism industry in Azerbaijan. In this regard, the Ministry holds regular courses for tourism market participants. Besides, work is under way to resume education in vocational schools for the middle and lower categories of workers of the industry, which do not require higher education.

The Azerbaijani duet of Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal (Ell/Nikki) with pop-ballad Running Scared became the Eurovision 2011 winner.

Azerbaijan expects government’s special decision on start of Eurovision 2012 measures

The Ministry of Culture & Tourism of Azerbaijan expects government’s special decree on measures and venue of the 57th Eurovision Song Contest 2012.

Aydin Ismiyev, head of Ministry’s Tourism Office, says that in the near future the government will make a decision on relevant measures for Eurovision 2012.

"After the announcement of the government’s decision, we’ll start working actively on preparations for the contest. I think we’ll be able to to complete all work throughout the year as well as to hold the event in accordance with the highest European standards," Ismiyev said.

He added that decision on the location of the building for the contest has not been taken.

On the last weekend Azerbaijan due of Eldar Gasimov and Nigar Jamal (Ell/Nikki) with pop-ballad Running Scared won Eurovision 2011, held in Dusseldorf. The country has automatically got the right for hosting the contest in 2012.

I was watching the winners press conference after the final, the questions coming from the media was shocking!!! Europeans are very uninformed about each others. Hopefully, Eurovision will be a great chance for Azerbaijan to show its real face to Europeans.

I got info that Tofik Bakhramov stadium could be venue for this event - however they must upgrade this stadium dramatically as it is in poor condition.

Three important things to mention:

1. Flight: http://www.avia.az or http://www.azal.az

2. Hotel: check http://www.hotels.az with more hotels to be opened in next 12 months

3. Venue: to be chosen from the existing ones or erection of a new arena

Hey, congratulations Azerbaijan! Without being "ignorant", how big are the risk for a terror attack of some sort? I have this feeling however, that Azerbaijan will do just about everything to ensure safety. The Swedish government is warning for "increased risk for terror attacks", but that information may be outdated.

Звучит интересно, но нужно подождать более детальной информации и вообще подтверждения этого проекта.
