Actually, La Défense doesn't have a single outstanding skyscraper but only shoe boxes.
Tours SG, tour EDF, tour total, T1, granite, tour first, Dexia and many others are boxes ?
Cool story....

@ thun
London and even Frankfurt have boxy towers too. What wrong with it? I personally like boxy Towers.
Besides that, take a look at the last Photo of FFM. From this angle you have the best perspective of the Skyline. Imagine there was no Commerzbank Tower. It would be half or even less more good as it now is. (Also because from this side the best Skyscraper Messeturm is not visable). So it is the same "problem" as Paris has.

Frankly, i don't care if they are "iconic" or not ( it's a matter of taste), they are not boxy, that's all.
(And yes, all the french forumers of SCC know that you are a french hater)

Point is: In both Frankfurt (Commerzbank, Messeturm) and London (Canary Wharf, Shard, Gherkin) the highest towers have quite unique designs and therefore "shape" the respective skylines. That's imo not the case for La Défense, there this job is done by the Grande Arche. In fact, it's doing this job even better than the towers in the other two cities as it's a really unique structure worldwide. Imagine a TV tower in it's place, it would probably look like Toronto or Shanghai.

The problem is, that in La Defense some pearls are a bit "hidden". The upcomming Majunga, Capre Diem and D2, all for themselfes very interesting projects will share the problem. But on the other hand that "problem" proofes, that La Defense is compared to London and FFM a very dense and compact skyline - and the lack of densety is sure something you can blame FFM and London (build Majunga in FFM or London and it would stand out much more). further Tour First is one of the best towers in Europe and the arch a world known iconic structure. We have here the "classic advantage and disadvantage" situation
But this is what makes Europe so interesting. We have for major skyline systems, that are all totally different to each other (Paris - compact and dense and harmonic, London many clusters over the city and brave in shape and designs, FFM spreaded but pointed and colorfull and Moscow - huge projects U/C with scattered communist architecture and industrial parts) and they provide more reasons to discuss about them than for example same looking Asian skylines or American Chess Squared essembles.

I agree. anywhere in the world you can't see such variety of architecture and skylines. on each continent there are certain standards of structure of skyline (in North America - low building with a high-rise cluster in the center, in South America thin residential buildings without a dominant..., except Europe

And we have Berlin in the European Union,

Well actually they are
I mostly see short buildings that are boxes, but some pretty tall ones too

Rotterdam

This Photo is not showing the total Skyline. The CBD on the left is missing on this Photo.
