From what I can figure out this building is not under construction,there has only been a small amount of prep work done on site.

Well that's a veritable hive of activity! Apart from clearing the site i think its safe to say no significant work has been done here. Its clearly not under construction.

Small section about the blade in a The News Article about 2012

THE BLADE

THE striking appearance of the Blade tower will rise above the Portsmouth skyline this year.

Standing more than 300ft tall, with 33 storeys, the new university student hall of residence will dwarf the surrounding buildings and an academic building is planned to be built next to it.

Clearing the Victoria Park site began in September and is due to continue throughout 2012, with the building ready for September 2013

Thanks for the news, been wondering what the hell's been going on with this tower. Drove past it on Saturday on my way back to University after the holidays and it looked dead. So they want this ready for September 2013 - that's a year and three quarters away, they'd better get a move on! Can't wait to see it rising properly.

There's nothing new there. That's the original planned completion date which the news has just pasted into that article without checking it out. As Superman points out it gives them just 20 months to occupation which would be quite ambitious. Given the complete lack of any progress isn't really realistic IMO.

I live about 10 minutes' walk from the site - I'll pop down tomorrow morning and get some pictures of what's there (which, last time I checked, wasn't very much, just an empty site, although I haven't been down there for a while). I'm also checking around to see who I might be able to get in contact with to ask about the tower's progress and why it's being held up.

Sorry for the lack of photos, I had to go out of Portsmouth for a couple of days so I wasn't able to go down to the site like I said I would.
I'll go down soon, I promise!

Haha yeah I suppose I'll assume the role of Portsmouth Lumberjack, I'm really eager to see progress on this so I'll start checking fairly regularly. Lectures start again next week for Semester 2 and I pass by the site every time I head to my lecture theatres, so I should be able to provide daily updates once it gets going.
