I agree, I'm very much expecting to see the office component going up, but the other half I'm not so certain about. If it does happen, I think that we might be waiting 3–5 years for it...

From viewing from Mary Street it looks like the water has been drained. Is this an optical illusion or am I correct?

I had a look this morning and couldn't see much from Mary Street but from Margaret Street it certainly has been drained a hell of a lot since I last looked.

Huge area of moist wall. Mind you there was no action today of anysort.

You don't need to take my comment so seriously.

Billbergia may get to work on the carpark (install both towers footings) and then sit on it for a few years depending on the market. Car parking in the city is definitely in demand so that's how they could potentially get an income until they can secure more tenants for the office component?

Exactly, they have to get the carpark up and start recouping the money spent on fixing the hole up. With a bit of 'vision', add a couple funky retail outlets (like what they did in Christchurch with shipping containers) on ground level with somewhere to chill out it could be a little winner til such time they decide to go up.

Just had a look at the project website and does this look shorter?

then this:

I also heard a rumour going around that Billbergia want to make it 100 storeys and they are pretty confident that they can get BAC's approval, obviously that is just a rumour, who knows if its real.

It is the slightest bit shorter, if you look how far above the river the top is you can see this, (and it is the exact same background just zoomed out on the new one), looks like they have made the vent/thing shorter at the top in the new one. Nice to see a higher quality render though

Well it does look a tiny bit shorter - the top of the first pic is just touching New Farm, while the second is what looks 2-3 stories taller.

edit: Eastern said same thing

Just looking at it again and it looks like the office tower is 4-5 levels shorter as well......

The newer render looks like the perspective is from further away making it look smaller so I can't really tell. The office building doesn't come up as far on the taller tower by the looks.

I put the old one over the new one and the background photo is the same, the old one is just cropped
