Did you mean this one?

Perhaps, it has something to do with Greek-Macedonian name disputy. In Serbia, it might be a relic of yugoslavian times.

Here in Slovaka we had another issue related to czechoslovakian times - roads with kilometres (on milestones) counted from Prague It is still in use in some sections.

Another piece, this time from Bratislava, Slovakia. Unlike the case of my post with lack of ovals above , here are two per destination for sure

Even notice how the exit "Bratislava - Petržalka" is shortened to "BA - Petržalka" according to the district code defined for the registration plate purposes.

The highway D1 is also marked in old-fashioned way without the "D" letter here.

That's not exactly a sign leading to a place in a foreign country though.

Yes, the Irish versions of place names are included on Irish republic signposts for destinations in Northern Ireland.

The Irish language is centuries older than the English language and almost all place names on the island of Ireland were originally in Irish alone, with the English versions coming much, much later.

Doire/DERRY is shown on signposts in the Irish republic.

Derry, derived from the Irish Doire (oak grove or oak wood), was founded as a settlement centuries before the Irish Society of London was set up (in the 17th century) to build an 'English' town at the site.

The majority of the city's inhabitants regard themselves as Irish and would like to see Derry (and Northern Ireland) re-united with the rest of Ireland.

Derry is the name used by many of the unionist/loyalist inhabitants too, and is part of the name of the Apprentice Boys of Derry.

In fact... There is another thread for regional borders.

Maybe I'll post something there in a couple of weeks with some pictures.

Just came down the fv 26 in Hedmark county, Norway. There, I saw a distance marker showing Mora, Sweden 250+ kms away, even though Mora isn't exactly a major metropolitan area...;-)

Signs of Flensburg and Germany are not very much present even Close to the DK/D border.

Along the road 170 Flensburg is first signposted South of Åbenrå, 33km North of the german border.

And it's spelled with "u". I've never seen "Flensburg" in DK, only "Flensborg".
