I think it is because of the algorithm Google uses for blurring faces, plates and other private information. As it is programmed for recognizing automatically some particular patterns, I guess that at some point some other random texts just match as well these prefixed patterns and the computer identifies them as element to be blurred.

This is my favorite sign. Not only four different countries, but four capitals in one sign. The picture is taken in Austria just outside Wien.

And now I browsed the entire thread and found the one with five. Oh well.

Kind of unique situation on Spanish roads:

The typical Baiona sign only in basque pointing to the French city of Bayonne, but with the detail of signposting the French motorway A-63 in the Spanish design.

Budapest 974 km? Who is that information designated for?

Btw. I have just found out that we don't have any signs directing to Ukrainian cities. Just "Ukrajina", "Border crossing" or possibly the combination of both.

But municipalities with significant Ukrainian minority has city entrance signs in azbuka

It makes sense for Hungarians and to our Polish friends. That is why Budapeszt is there and not, lets say Wien.

It sounds like a pro-Eastern-European commonwealth and union against the evil Western Europeans...

It makes sense for the E77 route, which goes through Budapest and is signed there...

But I don't understand why we in Bratislava don't have Thessaloniki then.

https://maps.google.pl/?ll=49.408695...,55.46,,0,6.61

In Poland, they almost always put the last locality on the route on distance signs.
So even on Warsaw beltway (E30, E67, E77) there are border villages on distance signs

Example:
Instead of

Code:
       [E30]
Łódź 117
Poznań 301
Berlin (D) 564
there is

Code:
      [E30]
Poznań 301
Świecko (PL)(D) 460

Likewise, we have outer-border villages on traffic signs in some cases. E.g. we have huge signs directing to Zwardoń (PL). Just try to find out something about this "city" Population 957

Yes, yes i was making a point, it is local patriotism thing. That sign would make sense in outback Australia or in Amazonia, where all settlements are about that size and that apart.

Speaking of Slovak signage, I think I saw a distance sign with just one city - "Toruń" on E75 somewhere near Čadca. I'm not sure though, it could as well be "Třinec"

Here's a nice sign from Czech Republic:
https://maps.google.pl/?ll=50.763716...14.77,,1,-7.86
There are only 430km to Szczecin (via E65)

Here is Zwardoń
Regarding Třinec and Toruń, there is used Česky Těšín a lot. Maybe it has been changed recently.

Nothing like that, its just 1000 years old friendship between Hungary and Poland! Btw: It is central and not eastern europe. But seriously, if someone looking on the sign it can be obvious that this is route E77, passing borders and countries from the north to south!
