Is this the development that AMP have been looking at???

Disappointing about the height. With Grosvenor Place directly opposite I cannot see why it should go to at least 150 metres.

yes its AMPs next tower. and it has a 120m height limit for entire block behind Goldfields due to sight line from Australia square.i too think 150m would be perfect for that site. oh well.

I can't believe we are losing a glassy skyscraper to make a room for another one... What a waste.

and it's probably not long until the st george buildings between this and goldfields on 182 george and 33 and 35 pitt st are demolished with a single replacement. that will be one dense and fat mother of an area.

I too hope that the St. George building goes. I was walking over the bridge last week look at this part of town and thinking that it needs sprucing up. Still 120m for this spot although no 150 will have to do.

Thanks for this update Cul.
A good looking new 118m office tower with +40,000 sqm of space is nothing to complain about, I just wish good old CSPC was less stringent with its frickin rules and would allow a 150+ m tower with 60,000 sqm of space !
Such a waste of this valuable footprint of land in what is the financial heart of the CBD.
Also the fact that it will be all but invisible on the skyline also makes it harder to accept.
I guess that's life for a Sydney skyscraper forumer these days !!!!

didnt AMP used to own it and sold it under condition that any development AMP would have the right to buy a 50% stake?

I don't see what council's problem is. Sure, Aussie Square isn't a bad building (it's actually very good as far as 60's towers are concerned, one of the few of them I actually like).

I could understand it for a building like the Opera House or even Central Station (which IMHO is VASTLY underrated, although CityRail's ticket box detracts from that somewhat), but Australia Square probably doesn't need this sort of protection. I know it was once a tallest, but then, so are a lot of other buildings...

It also constrains one of the great things about Sydney, walking around the dense urban jungle that is the CBD and then finding that gem of a building which you wouldn't have quite expected to be where it is (there's quite a few examples of this sort of thing... I can see the building on the Goodsell site could well end up as one of them.

looking at that model, i reckon it will be too cluttered when the st george buildings also get redeveloped. they should have allowed this one to go a bit higher, just so it would stick out a little and step down to st george when it goes in then down again to goldfields. instead they stunted it. i see no reason for it at all, it's quite a ways back from the "high and mighty" circular quay front and it's near some serious talls. i really wonder who's running the show a scc???
