of course its gone.
You are asking a population who still "run" a car to warm up the engine for about 15 minutes everyday, who still sleep and sit in a car with the aircon on for at least 2 hours inside a semi enclosed car park, who think something 50 years old is an antique, who use asphalt and tar to fill in holes in our concrete roads, spend on pedestrian lights (like at the Fort) where there is no value to the pedestrian etc etc..of course its gone..... we are the most educated but uneducated people in the world.

Ewan ko lang kung may maga-agree sa akin but I am thinking of demolishing the Quirino Grandstand and relocating the MOP to another place (perhaps on the south harbor to stimulate the place). The original plan was to have a good view of the bay from Luneta, and somehow I want to revive it. Oh well... libre lang mangarap

BTW I am wondering why the Manila Ocean Park is built on that site beside the Quirino Grandstand / Rizal Park. Dapat sa bandang Mall of Asia siya tinayo noon.

Yep, too sad about what has happened to this former historic heart of mid-20th century Manila: thanks to whomever allowed the Ocean Park monstrosity to block the rest of Luneta from the seafront, there's little of the environmental ambience originally intended in Daniel Burnham's layout. As for the historic Manila Hotel, it has sunken to the level of tacky tenement, cheapened more by the docking of that hideous floating hotel just by its seawall.

That goes to show how Manila is very unorganized. But let's be content at least businesses are still sprouting in that area. In the future, when our country is already first world, it would be easier to organize everything.

For sure--it is promising to see signs of economic viability amid what may easily degenerate into an inner-city slum. I am hopeful that one day we can coordinate efforts in both private and government sectors at making large-scale improvements that fit well to the unique identity of the location.
