The Hague citywalks (Den Haag) Netherlands

In my spare time I walk around in my city with my camera. In this thread I will try to give you an impression of the city and I hope you will enjoy it! The pictures are shown random

Some information:
- Inhabitants around 500.000
- Urban area around 1,000,000
- The Dutch Government, the Royal family and International organizations are seated here.
- It is situated in the West of the Netherlands at the North Sea.
- The center of the city has got an old and a new part.
There are two major railway stations (The Hague central and Hollands Spoor)
- Scheveningen is a former fishing village and now part of The Hague. It is one of the popular beach destinations in The Netherlands. Kijkduin is more unknown, but also part of the The hague coastline.
- The contrast between rich and poor can be big (for Dutch standards)
- The city hasn't got the best reputation in The netherlands, but that's starting to change. Most people don't really know it. The city is not an open book but can be really beautiful!
- I love living here.

I will start with 15 pics. When it is necesarry i will explain what u see.

This is called a Koffiehuis (dont confuse it with coffeeshop for weed). There are a lot in the city. Here you can drink and eat pretty cheap. Construction workers lunch here a lot. This is typical for The Hague.

New city centre is what usually takes years to complete but The Hague is undertaking the challenge in 2 years? Impressive.

btw. is that residental area just by the skyscrapers? Sorry. Are those skyscrapers that rise nearby housings?

or there are mixed use areas?

Its not really 2 years. The 5 new towers (3 times around 146m, 132 and 100) will be completed in the two years, but they started the proces of transforming this part about 10 to 15 years ago..

Yes the towers are nearby a residential area. The neighbourhood in front of the towers in picture 1 is residential. The area around the towers is mixed use. Same with the towers. 3 are residential (with retail)l and 2 are from the government

Hague is a nice mix between small scale, old fashioned buildings and tall modern highrises/skyscrapers.

Because there are no rock formations in the Netherlands, except a little bit of marl in a small part down South. So, bricks were the only affordable solution back in the days.

Wow, picture six with the setting sun is gorgeous!

The skyscrapers in picture 4 look a bit weird. Are they nearly finished?

Schilderswijk (Painters neighbourhood)

Yesterday i made a trip with my bike to the Schilderswijk. This is one of the largest poor neigbourhoods in The Netherlands. As you can see in the pictures the government tries to make it better by building new houses! Its a multicultural place withe a lot of surpises. People didnt like it when I took pictures there so not a lot of people on the photo
