- To move a runway would also mean resurfacing the existing runway to either become a taxiway or be closed permanently, as well as moving the navigational aids to the new runway. Estimates: $300,000,000 or more, depending on circumstances and how much movement will be made, as well as the runway length and materials used. - The move also requires Environmental Impact Statements and Reviews necessary to account for future aircraft navigation through new areas, such as residential communities. Estimates: around $100,000, if not more, depending on how many cities will be involved because it will involve air rights. - The move will also require clearing of the old runway's markings and realigning the lights and directional arrows to make sure that aircraft will operate safely, as well as providing a new set of navigational maps for the ATC, pilots, and airport personnel. Estimates: around $50,000,000 or more.

San Jose City Council meeting 12/18 will discuss trading affordable housing units with market rate units in phase 1 of the North San Jose plan.
If you read the letters, Barry Swenson Builder had an initial loan to start one of the 2 Century residential towers near the airport, but they could not get the rest of the financing because the 2 towers shared a base and the amenities. They along with Mill Creek Residential Trust are proposing to do a swap of housing types in the North San Jose Plan and they will give the city of San Jose 2.6 million for affordable housing units. If they get an approval from the city, they will submit a developer permit for Century Towers in early 2013. |

BTW, did anyone see the early drawings of the Samsung campus...it's quite different (see SJ Business Journal). http://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/b...-samsungs.html |

I love the Samsung buildings. Make sure you see all 4 of the photos and not just the first one, this thing is actually pretty damn impressive. When it's done, I think this will be the most iconic non-high-rise office building in San Jose.

Could be the most iconic period, sad to say. Would be a nice modern design for downtown. Wasn't there supposed to be two 10 story towers? Maybe I misread that in previous articles.

Ok Skyscrapers,
What are everyone's SJ development predictions for 2013? What will break ground? What will never see the light of day? What will (and won't) surprise us? Predictions, please. |

What about Swenson's Park View Towers? Think the Carlysle will happen before that? Seems like that project had a lot of traction a couple of years ago then nothing. |

I think the low vacancy with apartments combined with the popularity of San Pedro Square Market means the Carlysle will be built.
I haven't heard anything about North San Pedro or Park View in a long time so I don't expect them to happen in the near future. |

![]() I just noticed PRE12-135 on the same website (4305 N 1ST ST SAN JOSE) ... 4 x 5 story buildings .... that's pretty big too. Where is this? Is this that piece of Cisco land that recently changed hands? |

As for Parkview, I don't see it ever being built. I think they were ambitious to try to renovate the church, but that is the reason the project is being stalled IMO. I actually wrote a piece taking a creative approach to the church and what it could mean for the city, in the upcoming RITUAL issue of Content Magazine. It comes out next week, check it out and let me know what you think.

Looks like the Earthquakes Stadium and the Samsung Campus preliminary designs are bright and promising indeed. I might even consider San Jose as my future home, if not San Francisco, because it's like the city is progressing pretty fast.

It's definitely fun to see firsthand how San Jose evolves. SF is already a great city... there are a lot of interesting projects going on there but overall it is not going to be much different in 20 years. San Jose on the other hand will be a dramatically different place in two decades than it is today.

Great shots! It just blows me away how fast this has gone up!
What you have done - intentionally or not - is show the great public transit connections to this new stadium. There is also a station along Lafayette that serves Amtrack & ACE (that I'm aware of). I know a lot of SF people are unhappy with the move, but for a lot of people the stadium will be a lot more accessible. And let's not forget we are in the running for a Super Bowl in the next couple of years ![]() |
