Yes you are 100% correct...now go cup some San Diegan bocce balls. Please leave us alone.

Not yet, that's going to be a big project to update. My current big project is trying to keep the Downtown Restaurant google doc up the date (http://goo.gl/Qe7Pr) and also adding filters for places with Vegetarian, Vegan, and Gluten-Free options. We've had 3 new restaurants open within the last week. Also a fun fact for 2010... 5 restaurants closed and 13 new ones were launched.

Their corn fritters were really addicting! We'll have to see how the Mediterranean place compares. Some of my favorites are Morocco's, 71 St. Peter, Tofoo Com Chay, Pho 69, Los Cubanos, Vegetarian House, and Eulipia.

I drove by the Casino Matrix site the other day and was pleasantly surprised at how fast things are shaping up. The grading and foundation is done and there's 3 stories of steel framing up, just a bit taller than the highway now. I'm not sure if this is the casino or the tower. It appears to be sitting on a separate pad. I wish I had more details about the site/site plan. I've only seen the same renderings everyone else has seen. Although, I can't say that I like the renderings - I'm hoping the real thing looks a lot better. That was certainly the case with the airport.

Aha, I was wondering what was going up there. I thought it might be Matrix, but didn't realize it had already broken ground. Does anyone know what is supposed to go in the 8-story tower? It is not a hotel, that is supposed to come in a later phase. Could it be all of the administrative offices?

You are probably correct about the administrative offices. I also read in the Merc article that there would be a celeb-chef-fronted restaurant on the top floor as well as a separate high-roller casino area. It's nice to see some new development along SJ's 101 corridor. I'm sure in the years to come we'll see Bay101 start development on the huge swath of land next door to them.

That short sighted 101 N. San Jose development is what killing the downtown core of San Jose. The end of the redevelopment agency is the beginning of Downtown San Jose long downward spiral to death like back in the early 70's when the whole downtown was hallowed by vacant storefronts and empty lots. There's will be no development downtown without the agency investments with possible exceptions of a new court house(9 nine story) and the expansion of the convention center. That's it! I'm talking about the next 15 to 20 year time frame of dearth of construction and investments downtown. Downtown is currently is in the beginning of abandonment phase as the result of the whole valley community focusing on other cities and the city's outer area for investments and other activities. The Silicon Valley consumers mainly head to Los Gatos, Santana Row, Willow Glen, Campbell, Mountain View and Palo Alto for shopping, intertainment and restaurants and not much so to Downtown San Jose. This will increase over time, like 5 years from now, and Downtown San Jose will be a virtual ghost town with boarded up storefronts spreading throughout downtown. It's over for downtown since the agency is no longer there. I wish I was wrong, but that's highly unlikely so.

The demise of Redevelopment agency is the end of investment in Downtown San Jose. It's pretty much like back in pre-1979 before Frank Taylor and McEnery took charge and got projects going. If you can remember, nothing got going or started downtown with very few exceptions like Lew Wolf Park Center office complex(note: it was way easier to build offices since money was so relatively easy to come by). Now, Downtown is exactly in the same position where nothing can get done. This time, no office or housing will get underway. The only way to change the situation is if the city completely shuts development outside downtown and focus totally on downtown, and the whole valley change their attitude and get on the downtown bandwagon, which is highly unlikely to be the case. Don't shoot the messinger!

Durf, let me ask you an honest question. Are you some sort of sociopath? Why are you obsessed with trying to put other cities down. Does that make you feel better about yourself or the city in which YOU live (which you still haven't mentioned)?

Do you not get the hint that nobody wants you posting in the SJ forums?

Santos, don't you get it that the lack of development is what hurts downtown? Lack of density is what hurts businesses in the area since there's no critical mass. This not about putting city down. I don't enjoy this at all. Common sense is that if you don't have critical mass and lack of development with stiffle downtown's progress and its future. Stop attacking me and my character for this less than rosy future. I didn't create this downtown demise. The whole valley community did. So, don't blame me and use me as a scapegoat. I have right to freedom of speech, and I'm just the messinger.

I need to correct on 102. Lack of development will, not with as I wrote, stiffle downtown.

Kru, I don't hate San Jose, and you guys are in denial! Let's be civil here. I'm not out to get and put San Jose down. I'm letting you guys be aware of what's going on with downtown, which doesn't have a future as a thriving downtown unless these developers/lenders start building towers there. Lack of development is downtown's worst enemy. You should convince Sabrato and Swenson and their lenders to start building apartment towers since San Jose has the hottest apartment market in the country. You need density for downtown to work. Right now, there's no critical mass to sustain downtown commerce. There's demand for apt., extended stay hotels and corporate offices. The affordable apt. on Fourth and casino project on N. First should have been downtown. Forget North First St. and focus downtown. Remember, I'm not putting the city down. I'm trying to create awareness of downtown's plight to the real estate and corporate community. Lack of development downtown hurts downtown!

Durf, everyone here has optimism about Downtown except for you. Go rant somewhere else. If you don't like Downtown, don't go there!

Either learn how to post objectively, or find another forum to troll. You are the main reason why the old San Jose forum was killed, so don't make the admins lock this one as well.

YOUR COMMENTS HAVE BEEN HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR, now go away.
