New Hamburg, new photos of my little town in southern Brazil

Was visiting the apartment that my girlfriend´s brother in law bought. The building is in the final phases of construction and it was possible to take the elevator to visit any of the 18 apartments (1 apartment per floor). Just needed to be careful not to lean against the floor-to-ceiling windows, because some had the glass panes already in place... others NOT.

So, I took the oportunity to take some shots of the city from this vantage point where the 360º view shows most of the city.

01 - Jardim Mauá neighborhood and City Administrative Center in the background, along with three medium class residentials under construction.
The dark blue glass building on the left is the Federal Justice Forum in the city. The salmon building is the city hall.

02

03 - Sunset, the tallest in the city, at 32 floors

04

05 - Maurício Cardoso Av, which runs over the top of a hill, and where several of the best residentials are built.

06 - A street behind Mauricio Cardoso Av. At the background the skyline of the city of São Leopoldo.

07

08

09 - houses

10

11 - unlike most of Brazil, where red roofs dominate, in Novo Hamburgo, plenty of houses have more colorful roofs.

12

13 -

14

15 -

16 - Torre Prata office building and in the background, the green building is Porto Brasil.

17 - Part of downtown

18

19

20 - Parrot´s Hill with its houses. Despite the name, there are no parrots in the city. Parrot (Papagaio) is an old expression expression meaning "a loan to pay another loan". It seems some of the first people who built houses there were building houses larger than they could afford.
Below, the beginning of the construction of a 27 story building.

21 - Looking towards north. At the right, Hamburgo Velho neighborhood, where the city started.

22 - the building right in the center will be my future dwelling
Already bought the apartment there, doing some reforms before moving.

23 - Again, the "Parrots Hill' (Morro dos Papagaios)

24 -

25 - again, towards the north

26 - northeast direction, an hospital and the Swan Tower Hotel, and the twin peaks of a hill called "Two Brothers" (Dois Irmãos)

27 - zoom at Hotel Swan Tower

28 - Porto Brasil

29 - Morro dos Papagaios

30 - Mother´s Sanctuary, at the top of the hill, in the background

31 -

32 - Looking down below, leisure area of a highrise called Metropolitan.

33 - Looking east, towards the city of Campo Bom (Good Field), which is largely hidden by a hill.

34 - São Leopoldo again

35

36

37

38

39 - a gated condominium in the background, under expansion (the reddish earth area in the background)

40

41

42

43

44

45 - a fake bavarian styled building (faked because those are not real wood trussers, probably painted concreted). There are however some old historical REAL buildings like these in the city.

46 - the apartment from where I took the photo. Its a duplex occupying the whole two floors...

47 - it has a nice view...

48

* at photo number one, there is a gray building which you can only see the back of it... its front side is more interesting

some other views of the city, also my photos, but older

the Federal Forum

a cemetery with a good view... in the background, you can see a building under construction... its from there I took the photos above in this thread

Swan Tower Hotel

Front of Swan Tower Hotel with its atrium... this panoramic photo got pretty distorted :haha:

city downtown in the summer... photo taken from the Porto Brasil building (the green tall one that can be seen in some photos of the first post)

São Leopoldo, 210 thousand people, Novo Hamburgo´s neighbor . Novo Hamburgo, at 236 thousand, is a little bigger, but Novo Hamburgo belonged to São Leopoldo until 1922, when it emancipated. São Leopoldo was the first german colony in Brazil (founded in 1824)

my famous panoramic photo showing almost the entire metropolitan area of Porto Alegre. In the foreground, partially hidden by a hill, is Novo Hamburgo. Then a little farther, São Leopoldo´s skyline. A bit farther, the cities of Sapucaia and Esteio (barely have any skyline at all). Then Canoas (which has a decent sized skyline) and in the very background, 40km away from Novo Hamburgo and 65 km away from where this photo was taken... Porto Alegre (which occupies the whole horizon).

that green building with white stripes is from where I took the photos of this thread.

another panoramic... keep scrolling to the right!

in fairness, the city looks nice so with the location.
I'm assuming that most of the inhabitants are of German extract
as the name implies.
