A new era in the Kingdom’s development is underway and will soon be complimented by the introduction of The Bahrain World Trade Centre.


Located on the Bahrain Commercial Complex (BCC) site and adjacent to the Sheraton Hotel in the heart of Manama, construction is underway for a new landmark office and retail development. To be branded and operated as the Bahrain World Trade Centre, completion is planned for summer 2006.


A prestigious landmark for any country, the Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC) will have a particularly high profile in the Kingdom and add prominence to the Manama skyline. Its unique design comprising twin 50 storey iconic towers will become the tallest buildings in central Manama.


DTZ, one of the world’s largest firms of international property advisers has been appointed as the marketing and leasing agents for the development. Over the coming months they will embark on a worldwide marketing campaign to attract high quality tenants, which will involve their international network of offices. Interest in both the retail and office elements of the development has already been encouragingly high.

Construction of World Trade Centre begins

Manama: Work has started on the $150 million (Dh550.97 million) Bahrain World Trade Centre in Manama’s commercial district.

Funded through private investment, the 240-metre twin towers will be completed in June 2006, Claire Hughes of DTZ Bahrain, the property management company, told Gulf News. “They will be the tallest buildings in central Manama,” she said.

The Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC) is a member of the World Trade Centre Group. It intends to support Bahrain’s trade by providing information to businesses.

“It will be a business shopping centre that will complement and support the existing services of private and government agencies. It is more than just an organisation, it will be a shining example of the region’s economy and Bahrain’s achievements,” said Robin Williamson, general manager of DTZ.

He said the BWTC would bring together businesses and agencies involved in trade and provide essential services for all.

“The prestigious landmark of pointed glass and steel will offer 43 storeys and will house a retail centre, adding 148 more units to the existing City Gardens mall,” a DTZ spoke-sman said.

An expert on World Trade Centre management Paul Kotvis is to offer his expertise in setting up the BWTC.

He is arriving in Bahrain today as the guest of DTZ, the appointed international property managers and consultants for the two 50-storey twin towers.

The Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC) is currently under construction in Manama adjacent to the Sheraton Hotel.

Paul Kotvis, a Dutch national, has been appointed as consultant to help set up BWTC utilising his expertise, having previously been chief executive officer of the largest multi-functional accommodation in the Netherlands - The World Trade Centre in Amsterdam.

DTZ general manager Robin Williamson said: 'It is important for the Kingdom that we maximise the potential of the BWTC.

'We have therefore, asked Kotvis to provide advice on the best way of utilising the strengths of the global World Trade Centre Association, to implement successful strategies for its success in Bahrain.'

During his time here, Kotvis will work together with DTZ management to create the template for the BWTC's success and ensure that it is implemented and managed in line with World Trade Centre Association guidelines.

DTZ has also arranged for Kotvis to meet some of the relevant key government and corporate sector management in Bahrain in order that he can learn more about what the country and the region, has to offer to the World Trade Centre members throughout the world.

The World Trade Centre Association (WTCA), established in 1970, offers a worldwide network of opportunities for the region.

The WTCA has as its goals, to stand outside politics and move across national boundaries in service to those who wish to develop and facilitate international trade.

The organisation brings together exporters, importers and service providers who offer essential trade services and consequently help to stimulate the economy of the regions it serves.

In Bahrain, the World Trade Centre will dominate the Manama skyline with its spectacular twin towers and interest has already been shown in what is set to become Bahrain's most prestigious address for business.

As well as the new twin tower commercial office building of over 40 storeys, the development houses an extended retail centre, which, will double the amount of stores in the existing Bahrain Commercial Complex mall as well as adding some top quality restaurants.

The total area is around 120,961 metres square. The WTC is being built next to the Sheraton Hotel and the Bahrain Commercial Complex. It will include a retail area and office spaces. In total, the development will incorporate 1,700 car parking spaces.

The 50-storey twin towers of the Bahrain Trade Centre are now at ground level and construction is on schedule for completion in June 2006. The 240-metre towers will be the highest in the island state. Letting agents DTZ are handling 150 retail units and 43 floors of office space.

The newly established Bahrain District Cooling Company (Tabreed Bahrain) has secured a 25-year contract to provide cooling services to the upcoming Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC), according to sources.

The company will provide 3,800 tonnes of refrigeration to the BWTC.

Tabreed Bahrain is a joint venture involving the UAE-based Tabreed, Esterad Investment Company and Abdulla A Bin Hindi.

Esterad managing director Abdulrahman Jamsheer is the chairman and Mohammed Darwish Al Qamzi of Tabreed is the deputy chairman and Dany Safi Tabreed chief executive officer is the managing director of the venture.

Construction is now under way on the new $150 million Bahrain World Trade Centre, a landmark office and retail development located on the Bahrain Commercial Complex (BCC) site and adjacent to the Sheraton Hotel in the heart of Manama.

The 240-metre high commercial office buildings will provide 43 storeys of leaseable space.

Rumaihi to develop World Trade Centre Mall
DTZ Bahrain, the firm of international property advisers who have been appointed to let and manage the Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC), has appointed Duaij Al Rumaihi as an Associate Director with effect from 2nd January 2005.


In his new position, he will have responsibility for developing the retail aspects of the Bahrain World Trade Centre to offer the excellence required of a World Trade Centre Association.

Making the announcement, Robin Williamson, General Manager of DTZ, said: 'DTZ is thrilled to add such an experienced retail manager to its team. I feel sure that his expertise will be very valuable as we build and develop the retail outlet housed within the BWTC to become the Gulf's leading retail centre.'

Mr Rumaihi brings to the position 6 years of experience in the retail industry, having been a member of the founding management team for Seef Mall in 1999. He is also a member of the International Council of Shopping Centres, a Director on the Board of the Middle East Council of Shopping Centres, member in the Chartered Institute of Marketing and founder of the Bahrain Shopping Centres Sub-Committee of the Tourism Committee in the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce.

DTZ real estates services company was the first international property advisor to be established in the Gulf with an office in Bahrain in 1975, and has recently re-established its offices in Manama following its appointment to manage the Bahrain World Trade Centre (BWTC). good, we need the mall to be good. The existing mall is also being renovated and i think the hotel will also be refurbished, basically i think the whole existing complex will be renewed in some sort of way, so that it integrates nicely with this.
