Work on hill highway begins


To be completed before Sabarimala season


The Achencoil- Chittar- Sabarimala highway would be opened for the public before the forthcoming Mandalam-Makaravilakku pilgrim season, said Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash on Tuesday.

Mr. Prakash was inaugurating the road development work, estimated at Rs.1.43 crore, on the 1.6 km stretch of the hill highway project passing through the forests at Neelipilavu near Chittar.

He said the road work, organised by the Forest Department and supervised by the Public Works Department, would be completed in a time-bound manner.

Linking Achencoil with the Mannarakulanji-Pampa main trunk road leading to Sabarimala, via Konni, Thannithode and Chittar, would reduce the existing road distance between Sabarimala and Achencoil by 39 km.

To aid development

The road, once completed, would also help overall development of the hill areas of Pathanamthitta district, he said.

New Sabarimala Tantri

Kandararu Rajeevararu will take over as Tantri of the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple, for the next one year, on the eve of the Malayalam new year on Thursday.

Head priest (melsanthi) N. Balamurali will open the sanctum sanctorum at 5.30 p.m. on Thursday for the five-day monthly rituals in the Malayalam month of Chingom, which begins on Friday.

The ritualistic duties at Sabarimala have been traditionally vested in the Thazhamon Brahmin family of Mundankavu, near Chengannur, which now has two branches, headed by senior Tantri Kandararu Maheswararu and his nephew Kandararu Rajeevararu.

The heads of the two branches have been undertaking the puja in alternate years as per an internal arrangement.

The one-year term of Kandararu Maheswararu ended with the Niraputhari celebrations in the month of Karkidakom on August 6.

The temple will close on August 21 evening.

It will open again in the afternoon on August 27 for the Onam festival and close on August 31 evening.

Sabarimala Temple opened for Chingam Poojas

The hill shrine of Lord Ayyappa was opened on Thursday evening for the five-day monthly poojas of Chingam, the first month of the Malayalam new year.

Melsanthi G Balamurali opened the Sreekovil at 5.30 pm in the presence of Thantri Kandararu Rajivaru. As a practice, no pooja was conducted in the evening.

Laksharchana would be conducted on the first day of Chingam on Friday, Sabarimala devaswom executive officer Sankaranarayana Pillai said. Sahasrakalasam and kalabhabhishekam would be the other rituals to be conducted in the temple. Udayasthamana pooja, pushpabhishekam and padi pooja would be the other rituals to be held. The temple will be closed on August 21 evening after athazha pooja and Harivarasanam. The temple will reopen for Onam celebrations on August 27 evening.

Muneer to inaugurate connected e-toilet project

India’s first Connected E-Toilet Infrastructure (CETI), funded by the State sanitation Mission is coming up in Pathanamthitta. The project will be inaugurated by the Minister for Local Administration M. K. Muneer at a public function at District Hospital premises in Kozhencherry on Thursday.

District Panchayat President Babu George said the panchayat has set up 26 e-toilets in 17 divisions of the district as part of its ongoing `Zero Waste Pathanamthitta’ project. Though the State presently has got as many as 300 e-toilets, the CETI to be inaugurated in Pathanamthitta district would be the first of its kind in the whole country, Mr. George added.Mr. George said CETI help in the social development and sanitation of the State. More e-toilets would be set up in the district in the coming years, he added.

According to him, the interconnected e-toilet network will be digitally controlled, enabling people to locate them, check the working status, and remotely control the units to ensure its smooth functioning. CETI is a perfect blend of engineering, technology and biological processing with a cozy ambience and style, he adds.

Mr. George said CETI has been designed on the lines of the Australian National Public Toilet Map as part of the total sanitation programme of the district panchayat. He said the panchayat has envisaged provision of hygienic and waste-free toilets at international standards. He said CETI would take the State as well as the district to the league of developed nations having state of the art, hygienic and pollution-free e-toilet network with international standards.

കെ.ജി.എസ്. വക ഭൂമിയുടെ വിശദ സ്*കെച്ച് തേടി;


പത്തനംതിട്ട: നിര്*ദ്ദിഷ്ട ആറന്മുള വിമാനത്താവളത്തിനായി കെ.ജി.എസ്. ഗ്രൂപ്പ് സ്വന്തമാക്കിയ ഭൂമി മാത്രം വ്യവസായമേഖലയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കാന്* വ്യവസായവകുപ്പ് നടപടി തുടങ്ങി. ആറന്മുള, മല്ലപ്പുഴശ്ശേരി, കിടങ്ങന്നൂര്* വില്ലേജുകളിലെ 500 ഏക്കര്* ഭൂമിയാണ് 2011 ഫിബ്രവരി 24ന് വ്യവസായമേഖലയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത്. ജനവാസമേഖലകളും തണ്ണീര്*ത്തടങ്ങളും നീര്*ച്ചാലുകളും ഇതില്* ഉള്*പ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. കുടിയൊഴിപ്പിക്കലിനും വസ്തുവിലുള്ള സ്വതന്ത്രാധികാരം നഷ്ടമാകുന്നതിനുമെതിരെ നാട്ടില്* വ്യാപകമായ പ്രതിഷേധം ഉയര്*ന്നതിനെ തുടര്*ന്നാണ് വ്യവസായമേഖലാ പ്രഖ്യാപനത്തില്* ഇളവുവരുത്തുന്നത്.

റവന്യു വകുപ്പിന്റെ രേഖകളനുസരിച്ച് കെ.ജി.എസ്. ഗ്രൂപ്പിന് 200 ഏക്കറില്* താഴെ വിസ്തൃതിയുള്ള ഭൂമിയേയുള്ളൂ. ഈ ഭൂമിയുടെ വിശദമായ സ്*കെച്ചാണ് റവന്യു വകുപ്പിനോട് വ്യവസായവകുപ്പ് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്. സ്*കെച്ച് തയ്യാറാക്കുമ്പോള്* ഇതുവരെ നിലനിന്ന വലിയൊരു ദുരൂഹത മറനീക്കുമെന്നാണ് റവന്യു വകുപ്പ് അധികൃതരുടെ വിലയിരുത്തല്*. കെ.ജി.എസ്സിന്റെ കൈവശമുള്ള ഭൂമിയുടെ സര്*വ്വേ നമ്പരുകള്* തുടര്*ച്ചയായ പ്രദേശങ്ങളുടേതല്ല.

വ്യത്യസ്ത സര്*വ്വേനമ്പരുകള്* കാണിച്ചാണ് വിവിധ അനുമതികള്* അവര്* നേടിയെടുത്തത്. ഈ സര്*വ്വേ നമ്പരുകള്* തുടര്*ച്ചയായ പ്രദേശത്തിന്*േറതാണെന്ന ധാരണയുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. റവന്യു നടപടികളുടെ ഭാഗമായി ഭൂമി അളക്കാനും സര്*ക്കാര്*വക സ്ഥലങ്ങളും തോടും വേര്*തിരിച്ചിടാനും എത്തിയപ്പോള്* സര്*വ്വേ നമ്പരുകള്* തുടര്*ച്ചയായ സ്ഥലങ്ങളുടേതല്ലെന്ന് വ്യക്തമായിരുന്നു.

വിമാനത്താവളം സംബന്ധിച്ച അന്വേഷണങ്ങളില്* റവന്യു വകുപ്പ് കൊടുത്ത മറുപടികളില്* പ്രദേശം തണ്ണീര്*ത്തടമാണെന്ന് കൃത്യമായി വ്യക്തമാക്കിയിരുന്നു. ഭൂപരിഷ്*കരണ ചട്ടങ്ങളുടെ ലംഘനത്തിനെതിരെ നടപടി തുടങ്ങി വച്ച ഇടമാണെന്നും കാണിച്ചിരുന്നു.
ആറന്മുളയിലെ വ്യവസായമേഖലാ പ്രഖ്യാപനം വിമാനത്താവളങ്ങളുടെ നോഡല്* വകുപ്പായ ഗതാഗതവകുപ്പിനെ അറിയിച്ചില്ലന്ന് നിയമസഭാ സമിതി കുറ്റപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നു.

പൈതൃകഗ്രാമമായ ആറന്മുളയ്*ക്കൊപ്പം മല്ലപ്പുഴശ്ശേരി, കിടങ്ങന്നൂര്* വില്ലേജുകളെയും വ്യവസായമേഖലയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത് സംശയാസ്​പദമാണെന്ന് നിയമസഭാസമിതി അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. തീരുമാനം പുനഃപരിശോധിക്കണമെന്നും കെ.ജി.എസ്. ഗ്രൂപ്പിന്*േറത് ഒഴികെയുള്ള ഭൂമി ഡീ നോട്ടിഫൈ ചെയ്യാനും നിര്*ദ്ദേശമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

Church pushes for medical special economic zone in Tiruvalla

KOCHI: The entrepreneurial outreach of Catholic Church in the state is widening. It is now seeking permission for a special economic zone from the government in Tiruvalla where the church already runs Pushpagiri Medical College.

Pushpagiri Medical Society (PMS), a wing of the Syro Malankara Catholic Church, is planning a Rs 875 crore Tiruvalla special economic zone (TSEZ) in its 140-acre campus to set up industries related to nanotechnology, biotechnology, medical equipment and alternative energy.

Fr Abraham Mulamoottil, chairman and chief executive of the Pushpagiri group of institutions, said: "In our hospitals, except for patients and medical staff, everything is sourced from abroad. It is high time we developed new equipment and products in the state itself."

The proposal is for a public-private partnership along the lines of Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram.

During the Emerging Kerala summit Pushpagiri Medical Society representatives had discussed their plans with Ashish Mehta, first secretary , trade and investments, British Deputy High Commission . The UK delegation had shown interest in the project and promised to make a pitch with the majors in the education and health sectors, said Fr Mulamoottil.

TSEZ would centre around Pushpagiri Centre for Innovation and Development in Indigenous Technology which will give students a platform to develop products and services.

"After the Sree Chithra Institute of Medical Sciences developed the stent, not much has happened in the field of medical research. Our aim is to provide the latest in nanotechnology and robotics, and state-of-the-art laboratories to design our own medical equipment," said Fr Mulamoottil .
