I've just realized that the construction of this tower is like the release of The Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin. Initially announced in 2011, "could be here next year", then continuously pushed back year after year since then. In the meantime, other projects have stolen its thunder (KL118 being a contender for height/the Game of Thrones TV series surpassing the books).

I wouldn't actually be surprised if rebar work for Signature Tower would happen within two months of TWoW hitting the shelves.

We can do better

France : hermitage plaza , France's future tallest skyscrapers and first supertall

Announced in 2008, the design barrely changed since.
Building permit was given in 2012
It was estimated to be finished by 2015

It's 2017 and the constructions still haven' begun
No it's not cancelled, there is some juridic problems since years.

I don't see, this building has any technical problem, even the developer can build this building if they want too but currently Jakarta is facing low demand in corporate office market, the market is not so good. If they build it now, the building must be compete with another 3 supertall that currently being build in Jakarta. In KL most of the supertall & megatall (KL118) are owned by Malaysian government link companies, they are rich companies and they are not facing much problem to secure future tenants (not saying they do not face any problem on this matter but less) as the supertall being build for their own new HQ, filled up by their own staff /corporate departments and the rest open to other tenants.

I still believe the owner/developer is currently searching the potential tenants, once they have it, they will start develop this building. The location is strategic but the market is not with them yet. The future MRT can also boost the market but in term of conectivities they really need help from the government to build proper bridge to connect from MRT station to the tower area as the future MRT station is considered a bit too far from the location. Once the market is there, they will build this building.

Probably it's difficult to find tenants since a building this height rarely make any economic sense, unless they're (financially) prepared to remain empty like those towers in Dubai.

Adding to that is public transport in Jakarta is not that developed compared to other cities that are building supertall / megatall towers. This will put a huge strain on the city's infrastructure once the tower completed.

IINM, their main problem right now is to secure loan for this project. I believe once they have it, construction will start immediately

Indeed, if Malaysia did not plan such tall buildings for their government companies Kuala Lumpur would not have seen the tallest and most impressive buildings it has today.

The walkability and public transport combination is important as well indeed. There is really need for a good continuous sidewalk towards the MRT station with good shadowing before one could even start. Fact is however that the MRT will undoubtedly bring relief on the streets, although only because of connections with other transportation modes.

Saefullah belum mengetahui kapan pembangunan Signature Tower dimulai. Sebab, pemilik gedung masih mengurus izin-izin pembangunan gedung tersebut.

Signature Tower merupakan calon pencakar langit pertama di Indonesia yang masuk kategori megatall versi Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). Ketinggiannya mencapai 638 meter.

Gedung jangkung milik Grahamas Adisentosa (anak usaha Danayasa Arthatama) ini dirancang oleh Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart and Associates Inc. (SRSSA).

Mereka menggandeng mitra lokal Pandega Desain Weharima.

This tower is the only megatall going to be built in this country, since Pertamina Energy Tower as 2nd megatall will be built less than 99fl (it means, by CTBUH still classified as supertalls)

So, it's going to be new landmark of Jakarta beside Monas. Btw, Monas is the tallest one for years, and now is overshaded by the talls around MH Thamrin Boulevard.
