English Wikipedia says:
A lapidarium is a place where stone monuments and fragments of archaeological interest are exhibited - stone epigraphs, statues, architectural details like columns, cornices and acroterions, as well as tombstones and sarcophagi.
Such collections are often placed in the yards of archaeological and historical museums in the open air.

And indeed original statues and other spolia of the former palace will be exhibited there.

Having a "Senior Moment"

Sorry. As soon as I read the reply I recognized my mistake. I was thinking of a "tepidarium" and not a "lapidarium." I must have been having a "senior moment." Thanks for the reply and clearing that up.

More Construction ?

Photographs of the Humboldt Forum area now seem to show a big pile of what appears to be construction materials behind the Alte Kommandautur building just across the Spree from the Stadtschloss site. Is something else now getting ready to start construction on that site? Just curious.

I have a question: the schloss will be completely new, or there are still some original parts saved after destruction of the original that can be used during reconstruction? like frauenkirche in Dresden for example?

There is not very much preserved, only some parts basements and (as far as I know) some sculptures and statues, mostly fragmented. Some small parts vere also found in private gardens were people used them for decoration. I guess if there are larger intact parts, they will be used for accurate reconstructions but later exhibited and not integrated in the new building.

Clearly you nothing about Disneyland or architecture otherwise you would not make such a ridiculous statement.
IMO the rebuilding of the Berlin Scholss is one of the most exciting projects in the world today, at last after the totally unnecessary destruction of the original by the commies in the 1960's or 70's (not sure when) Berlin will again have it's great centrepiece! Bravo Germany!

Hope it will help to establish monarchy in Germany again.

Why don't you discuss that somewhere else. No politics in this section seems like a good idea to me.

So, basically that's where my great grandad used to live until you and your republic screwed everything up?

Why would you re-establish the German monarchy if your PM is called die Kaiserin von Europa?

Nice to see Their Imperial Highnesses in these pics.

Is that piece of wall in the last photo just a sample, or will it be used in the reconstruction?

It's a sample and it will later find a place in the facade.

After the decade it took to finally start the construction, they are now incredibly fast. They most likely want to make the City Palace their showpiece project, to show everyone, that Berlin/Germany can still do big projects without inevitable failure...
