No, it would technically be possible, as the U-Bahn runs under the Humboldtforum and not between the HF and the Museum Island. It wouldn't cut the tunnel coming from Museum Island off. But do you have any idea, what that would likely cost? XD I already explained, that the ground on Museum Island is very, very difficult to construct in/on. The tunnel would also be pretty long, from Altes Museum to HF. People would probably get claustrophobic, walking about 200 metres through an underground corridor. Last but not least, the City Palace/Humboldt Forum historically never belonged to Museum Island anyway.

Historically, that's true. But the future concept is aimed at completing the Museum Island southwards (European & global collections). But I don't think it needs a tunnel either. People should see all the beauty of this area overground!

The brickwork, which seemed to be going slowly at first, appears to be proceeding in earnest now. And stone trim is being simultaneously attached to windows (and door) on west façade and Schlueterhof. How exciting!

Constructions on the roof confirmed to look awful from a little distance. D: What the hell were they thinking?

No, it won't. The two boxes will sit on top of the gabled roof. As Ludi said, let's hope, they will be completely covered with copper, just as the rest of roof, so it won't visually stick out too much.

For practical considerations, the rooftop restaurant obstructs the view of the base of the dome from the east.

Why they're insisting on attaching these modern elements to an otherwise splendid baroque building makes no sense. With the modern east facade, the view of the reconstructed building from the river isn't much different from what was there before. All it needs is a bronze glass skin and - voila! - Palast der Republik reborn. Hell, they might as well have left the Palast standing, and attached the new palace to it.

These boxes are not in the original renderings (see Page 1). The decision to add was made at some later date. I agree that it looks awful.

Does anyone know what will happen to the place where the ThyssenKrupp building on Schlossplatz was suppose to be built? Will it become a small park? Will they build something else?

Something seems to be missing there. Besides, it could help to screen that horrible ESMT building.

The Staatsratgebäude isn't horrible at all.

I wish they did this.

[QUOTE=Tiaren;124358672]A few trees.

Soooo.... I guess it's up to ThyssenKrupp to buy a bench and a few trees? Or does that plot belong to the city?

The Staatsratgebäude is an amazing mid century modern piece of architecture (with a baroque ornament). It's interior rooms are incredible!

Is that monolithic, hexagonal glass structure going to be coming down? It doesn't suit the area at all in my opinion. Other than that - it all looks brilliant!

That octagonal structure is the temporary Humboldt Box, informing about the future museum concept, the history of the Palace, the reconstruction and calling in for donations. There's also a café with some nice view on top. It'll be dismantled by 2019 (perhaps translocated, not yet decided).
