^ Great news! Can't wait for columns to start raising on the western portal now that the pedestals are almost done.

Found this I hadn't seen about the rooftoop restaurant. The light structure isn't that bad but the two boxes already in place seem too tall. I hope they know what they're doing.

I really hope, no, I actually pray, that once everyone notices, just how much the roof constructions are defacing the whole structure, people won't allow, the full restaurant construction to be build. It will be even more visible and defacing than it now already is.

I hope that one day in the future the whole thing will have been so accurately restored that even those utility sheds on the roof are back in place. I see this stage as only a halfway mark, like a rest stop halfways up a mountain.

I went to Berlin a few years ago and could see the cathedral across the river, and had no idea this reconstruction was even going on! Very glad to see it, might have to take another trip some day

Additions, Dates and Architects

As promised, here's a study of the different additions, their dates of construction, and who designed them.

Thx for pics, use flickrl, abload.de or something, where you can change side to x1024 or x1280.

I hope these skylights are temporary. They seem a bit alien to the entire reconstruction concept. These, and the volumes on the roof, make you wonder how many other contemporary 'artistic licenses' are they going to take. It seems that once that door was opened by Stella, the concept is: Anything goes!

Love the project and update photos. With a more authentic east facade that picture from Kurfürsten brucke and the dom in the background would have been amazing. And plans on reconstructing the bridge to provide a more traditional feel to the area?

25 years of construction and the google earth view in Berlin is still full of construction. Those pictures of buildings destroyed are sad, but the city is looking great!
