Thank You

Ludi:

Thank you for keeping us updated with your detailed photographs of the construction work at the new palace. We would not be seeing nearly as much without your help. Your efforts are truly appreciated.

Even behind the scaffolding the stone looks very nice.

The cylindrical columns will also look stunning, very New Formalist.

No work on the wall at the south side for 2 weeks. Why? are the workers relocated to the north side? I'm worried.

Steinar37, work on palace construction has been necessarily slow because of winter. Judging from the number of new construction cranes popping up like mushrooms these past two weeks, I suspect work will resume as spring approaches and the weather warms.

Working with Concrete

Steinar37:

They can't work with concrete unless the temperature is above freezing and going up. Otherwise, when the wet concrete freezes it cracks and they have to rip it out and start over. Most likely, they have had to wait for warmer weather to continue working on the exterior of the building.

Is there any chance the Wilhelm memorial will be reconstructed in front of the palace or are they stuck on that modern design I've seen renderings of?

Yeah, cold weather shouldn't stop concrete pouring on a site like this. Berlin has only had 10 days this year below freezing and most were barely below. December had no days below freezing.

Only a brainwashed people that learn to hate themselves since kindergarten could approve building this mockery of a building that shits on the rich german heritage.

How does it "shits" on the rich German heritage? Will Cologne's Cathedral or Nuremberg Castle somehow be less architecturally important and unique because of the City Palace? Also, what makes Berliners and, in general, Germans, brainwashed because of this building? They've decided to build something they thought it was the best thing for them, and I don't think they'd failed with their choice. Berlin will get a brand new museum which will make it even more cultural and entertaining. Museum Island will be extended and the urban context will finally be fixed. I get that there are many opponents of reconstruction, but I would rather see some valid arguments from them, not just mindless bashing.

Do I really have to explain myself? This is not the city palace germans should build, this is a city palace with a modern fugly cancer wall in it. That's what I'm talking about. I welcome every reconstruction project in the whole world, but puting this modern crap in it is what I hate.

I agree to a certain extent. The modernist garbage that has been tacked onto this building is offensive and hideous. Not reconstructing the Wilhelm Memorial is also a disgrace. Furthermore, the museum inside should be dedicated to German art or history.

The big concrete works are mostly done. The facade is made of bricks and working with motar below roughly 5°C is not very advisable.

BERLIN | City Palace Reconstruction (Stadtschloss) - "Humboldt-Forum" | U/C

Rather rescent progress and detail on the less seen facades.

The Humboldt Forum is a brilliant addition to Museum Island and Berlin. It represents the resilience and love for craftsmanship and quality that has defined Germany for so long. How anyone from some effete mediterranean backwater could diss Berlin is beyond me.
