Unfortunately, function always prevails over form. I am really disappointed about the fact that the White and Knight Rooms, Gallery and the Chapel under the dome will never be restored.

Nothing is forever. No single reconstruction was made impossible with the way the reconstruction was realised. It's just that some are much more likely (and easier to implement) than others.

Since the layout of a new palace differs a lot from the layout of the old one, this is going to be a very difficult task; however, I hope that your optimism has some grounds to rely on. I think that in the nearest future a virtual reality room (CAVE) will be enough for the visitors of Humboldt Forum to see the interiors of the old palace.

The view from Unter den Linden to the cafe will however be much less breathtaking. You are aware that the cafe will be visible as an unsightly modernist box from the ground? Seen from the Lustgarten it will even obscure parts of the dome. Many people, including well known architects, were against this addition on the roof. But neither the Humbodt Forum Foundation nor the Government cared...
Well I was not. I don't recall any of the renderings showing a modern box plopped on the roof, obscuring the dome. It's unimaginable that they would do such. Let's hope they don't decide to put a metal stairway winding up the outside of the dome for cafe goers to get a better view.

It is not that bad, the cafe will not hide the dome:

It's bad enough. And I said from Lustgarten. When you will look from the Altes Museum to the Palace it will obscure parts of the dome.

You are right. Alas, I can't find the new visualization for Lustgarten.
