Over the last few months, there has been a freeze of the excavations and their conversations. Here is what the area looks like today

and how it will look once the glass cupola will be erected.

After a few years of frozen works because of legal issues, zone 3 on the map will finally be completed this year (by the end of October).

Here are some recent updates

I am not sure why so much new material has been added on the excavated remains. They are not visible any more, and even if they were, it certainly isn't a visual improvement either...

Usually, excavated foundations remain either buried or partially exhibited for suggestion in points of interest, as they are both fragile from the elements and of little interest other than scientific as they are not photogenic enough and require of a vantage point to observe them correctly, but to uncover entire streets of them and built anew on top is mostly irregular.

Historical restorations in Bulgaria are generally not done properly. It is a common theme.

The stone parts will look better once they age a bit. Not sure about the use of modern bricks though. In any case, restoring structures from the roman times is indeed very troublesome, because roman mass production demanded in many cases low quality building materials. Brick and cemented irregular stonewalls don't hold against time as well as classical masonry, and their restoration is even more problematic because the buildings were actually covered in stucco, and the walls we see today were not actually visible.

All pictures were taken by kraxx. More pictures here

The revitalization of the remains that were kept outside is not too great, but the ones in the interior are looking pretty good.
