Tripods are best, but in the absence of that, try to hold the camera firm against a tree or something and set the shutter on a timer so you don't have to worry about your "trigger finger" moving the camera.

Thanks, 900! This one below is definitely a perspective I want to improve upon, but haven't been able to, so I'm looking into at least setting my auto-timer so that I don't move the camera too much by finger-snapping the picture.

Is it just me or dont you find Adrienne Arsht Center extremly ugly?
I'd love something more classic for an opera building. Why not in a art deco style? |

I was very pleased with how I was able to improve on this shot of Plaza at Brickell, Icon Brickell, and 500 Brickell from across the Miami River in front of One Miami, but the one skyline shot from Hobie Island is the best I can do without a tripod, though I did finally figure out how to set my auto-timer after calling Nikon. None of the others from Hobie Island came out looking quite as good, so I didn't post them.

Congratulations on the Tripod! What a difference. See what I mean, with that hold your breath method, you get one out of ten shots that are worth posting. Most of the low light night pictures posted recently are not nearly as good as the recent photos that you have posted without the hold your breath method.
The difference is like night and day...or like delete-able and post-able. Last edited by Seriously; December 26th, 2010 at 05:32 AM. |

Seriously, I had every intention of getting a tripod at some point, and even though I titled this thread The Best of Miami and the Beaches, I often post for perspective, as I've said almost from the very beginning of shooting and posting. A photo is here because it's what I want you to see, whether it's a perfect picture or not. On this thread, what is post-able or delete-able is what I deem to be so. I've posted enough "awesome" photos not to be concerned with whether somebody thinks I'm a great photographer or not because I post a not-so-great photograph. Now, the only thing I have really asked you about photography is who snapped the last time you complimented somebody's photography in this forum.
