Ah, i thought it was a Lion& Unicorn. The building was built for a jeweller, possibly with premises in Manchester as well? Btw, the Manchester coat of arms appears on at least one other city centre building, i think it's Compton House along with an American Bald Eagle.Jane, and anyone else for that matter, if you see an interesting doorway snap it, it doesn't matter if it's already featured, in fact if it's a repeat of any i've taken it will more than likely be a better pic than mine. Incidentally Jane, i got the idea for this thread off you. I remember you saying you had folder on your computer with images of doors and doorways of places you had visted, this probably explains why you are spotting the ones i'm missing. Good stuff.

Excellent collection there, especially the house with the green door. It's an original Regency door, an unusual type of 6 panel that's very rare in Liverpool,(in fact i can't recall another example) Great spot.

Fantastic shot, love that. I walked through that entrance yesterday and didn't even notice the vaulting. Excellent.

Classical 'Temples' and 'Basilicas'
Typically these doorways are tall and narrow with restrained classical motifs. |
