The company behind Frankfurt airport say that they are uncertain about the passenger growth in 2016 as there is a huge fall in passengers to Turkey.

Any numbers how the terrorist attacks affect the passenger amount in the Istanbul airports?

Does Fraport not own Antalya airport in Turkey which is a very seasonal airport with huge peaks in summer ( July and August) and lots of Russian tourists....up to last year.

Are you sure they were talking about Istanbul at all. ????

More than 13,000 workers from 16 countries are working on Istanbul’s 3rd airport, whose first stage is planned to open in 2018.

What will happen to IST when the new airport is operational? Will it be closed down and demolished in the future, or just closed down?

I think...

1) The airport code IST will be transfered to the new airport

2) The current Ataturk airport wil be assigned a new airport code (possibly AKZ)

3) The current Ataturk airport may be transformed into a huge MICE centre and to serve chartered/non-scheduled flights only

Istanbul should grab the opportunity of turning the current Ataturk Airport into a unique first-kind “international MICE (Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions and Exhibitions) centre with full runway/airside facilities”.

Turkey should bid for the rights to host World Expo 2025 (Exposition Universelle) to be held at the new MICE centre (i.e. current Ataturk Airport).

It is noteworthy that many governments in East Asia, including Singapore, are rigorously promoting themselves as the regional/international MICE destination.

Furthermore, blessed by its geographical advantage, Istanbul is an upcoming regional business hub for MENA-EECA (Middle East North Africa - Eastern Europe Central Asia) region.

RUFIZ HAFIZOGLU ON MAY 13, 2016

Quote:
May 12--Construction of the third airport in Istanbul is complete by over 25 percent, the Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported May 12.

To date, as much as $1.8 billion has been spent on the airport's construction.

The newspaper also reported that the construction of the third airport in Istanbul, which began in 2013, has been accelerated.

The third airport of Istanbul is planned to be commissioned in early 2018.

It is being built near the Lake Terkos in the north of Istanbul.

The airport is expected to be one of the largest in the world and will be named after the country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

But I still think the airport will be named after a famous Ottoman ruler...

Full name:
ISTANBUL MUHTESEM KANUNI SULTAN SULEYMAN HAVALIMANI
(ISTANBUL SULTAN SULEYMAN THE MAGNIFICENT AIRPORT)

Short name:
ISTANBUL SULTAN SULEYMAN HAVALIMANI
(ISTANBUL SULTAN SULEYMAN AIRPORT)

...will see

Hi Guys,

Can anyone provide a metro line map of the new train/metro line that will link the new airport under construction with Istanbul Centre?

If not a map can people list the areas/neighbourhoods the metro line will have stops at?

I understand Gayrettepe station will be the last stop on the line in the centre of the city, but I am trying to find where else it will stop

Many thanks for your help

Max
