BTW korean society has many contrast if compares with the japanese. Lots of new richs who likes to show their status, a medium class to aspires to become new rich and many many poor people (specially older people ) who lives in poor conditions and you can see in many areas in central Seoul.

More lines, more frequencies, new rapid services and high parking taxes or directly ban cars on the city center.
agree
in the case of big commuter service Japan rule! also i like japan shincansen's creative design. much more adorable than TGV/KTX.
Though japan train system get old(classic is more proper word for me) but it cover not only city but also all country. Also train always moving on time.
also Recently I heard that abe announce very ambitious new high speed maglev project in japan.

seoul have a PLAN for construction 3 GTX project for connected between seoul with satellite city.
GTX 200km/underground 40m/total 145.5km/total 3line
X shape crossed seoul metropolitan
but among them only one line(around gangnam) close to construction.

Yes, the Chuo Shinkansen Maglev will start works soon. Maybe by the end of this year.

In Korea other problem for commuters is the non-Seoul big cities. Busan hasn't well commuter service (next year will open the Donghae-Nambu Commuter) and by 2020~ the continuation to Sasang, Gimhae and Masan.

Other big cities like Daegu, Daejeon or Gwangju hasn't commuter services and I asume they use only the Subway as a mass transport, but one or two lines feel me insufficient.

Cities like Ulsan depends exclusively on the bus!!!

Public transportation is much, much cheaper in Korea, buses go anywhere anytime for a low price and even taxis are ridiculously cheap and basically everywhere.
But still many Koreans, especially middle- to upper-class people, simply prefer their big nice car.

Its the same problem with the traffic jams in Gangnam or Jamsil around Lotte World Tower, where many upper-class people live. Everyone complains about the traffic but noone is willing to stop using their car.
A car is something you are expected to have when you wanna be seen as successful. It is a cultural thing.

Here are some sources that prove my point:

source: http://www.oregonlive.com/business/o...500.xml&coll=7

source: http://english.chosun.com/site/data/...032400784.html

One possibility to reduce the usage of cars would be to make gasoline or taxes for cars much higher, but i don't think the government would dare to do that. Much better would be a changing mindset towards cars as status symbols
Seems like you haven't got my point yet

The biggest reason why the demand for bicycles or compact cars is high in japan compared to the others is mainly due to its narrowness of the streets and roads. Even Nagoya, where the city has relatively wider roads among japanese cities, seems narrower when it comes to comparison between gangnam. I think busan has some similarities in this case, where the road network isn't that sufficient.

And I do admit seoul has quite delicate metro system in the world, but even so it still isn't comparable to that of the tokyo's (well it really is cheap though).

I doubt whether it's really necessary. Simply extending more tracks along the already existing railway would be adequate I think.

Compare Gangnam with Shinjuku. Shinjuku is so much more pleasant. 4 lanes with many taxis and very few private cars cf Gangnam's 10(?) lane highways (Gangnamno, Tehranno etc.) clogged 24/7 with traffic.

The resulting reduction in traffic would allow Seoul to narrow the roads from their current absurd sizes and create extra public and commercial space further enhancing the area's value and amenity.
One thing that shinjuku differs from gangnam is that gangnam has just one or two metro lines passing below, whereas shinjuku is a place where the largest numbers of lines meet in the world. I think yeoungdeungpo station would have been like this if they had connected it with line number 2.

Yes, one thing that's still striking is how sparsely southern Seoul is served by north-south subway lines. Even with the northern extension of the Sinbundang line across the river, there will only be 8 subway lines connecting the north and south halves of the city, leaving many, many km's without easy access.

It's also undeniable that Seoul's roads are overbuilt, but it seems like that's gradually changing. Considering how high Korea's fuel prices are already, it seems like a change in how status-conscious Koreans are is the only thing that'll really get people out of their cars--maybe in addition to continuing to make the city's streets more pedestrian and commuter-friendly.

SORRY i was wrong... that is 1100rooms.
they make a "FAMILY HOTEL" which mean not short term stay but long term stay hotel.

So my guess it is not budget but some middle price hotel.

I'm glad that they've decided to go ahead with Yongsan Park. One of the things that struck me about Seoul was just how easy it was to feel fully immersed in nature in some spots that are right in the middle of the city, and how the whole city feels like it's sitting in a bowl formed by the mountains that surround it. Seoul could only be made better by furthering that feeling. As long as anyone displaced--business or resident--is adequately compensated for having to move, but with Mayor Park in office, I feel fairly confident that will happen.

Is this project already under construction? Are they waiting for additional US troops to move out before working on this project?

Looks very good, and as Aquaticko just said, I also love the fact that you can find yourself in the middle of the nature at the heart of the city.
