Additionaly the old regional tax office (build by the Japanese in 1937) will be demolished in March and a new park will be built there.

Quote:
In March, the city government will demolish the Seoul Regional Tax Office Namdaemun Annex building, which was built in 1937 by the Japanese to block the view of Deoksugung Palace during the colonial era.

After the demolition of the building, which is close to the building of the Seoul Metropolitan Council in central Seoul, the property will be used as a public park.

The city government plans to connect the park and the City Hall building underground, and Lee expects the project to take about two years.

Does anyone know where exactly the Seoul Regional Tax office is and how it looks like? I'm not exactly shure about the location

Thanks for the info, Inno! That bridge looks fantastic ! I only hopes it looks as good in reality as it does in the render.

Frankly, I'm fine with Seoul's super-organic vision of post-modern futurist architecture. With this bridge and DDP, it's forming into a coherent aesthetic that's wild enough that no one else will likely follow it, making it South Korea's trademark. It's especially good that this bridge was designed by Korean architects and named after a Korean(-American) artist. I hope that other project developers in the country will be so bold!

It's also great that they're turning that building into a mini-park. Any news on if they're going to eventually make Sejong-daero narrower so that it's more pedestrian-friendly?

What's going on with that bridge?

I can find articles on it from 2010... is it actually moving forward?

Thanks!

this project not yet confirm. but two ways it forward this project

first by this bridge designer and CEO of planing korea company Mr lee byogju.
last November 2014 in the show case http://www.ddp.or.kr/ "KOREA-CHINA CREATIVE culture conference" He official announced to push up this project and gathering 2000 small industry company in korea for participation on this bridge's construction task.

and official suggestion to Seoul government for built this bridge.

second recently KOREA government and seoul government under negotiation Han river development project.
among them they official announced to built PEDESTRIAN bridge such like a london and furangfurt.

at that announced seoul mayor saying "i will make a pedestrian bridge such like a london and frangkfrut of germany. which mean I will built special functional bridge such like a creative 백남준다리(bakenamjun bridge)"

that bridge is almost same location with 백남준다리(above rendering image)
So we can expect this project's reality.

but when i remind of seoul mayor's attitude.....he official anti development policy.(even world cup bridge in han river still 20% progress since 2008 construction begin. because seoul mayor cut the construction budget. even 7years ago under construction bridge intentionally stalled. how can he investment For new luxury bridge?).
this bridge is need some huge budget and you can see some BOAT and ship harbor design in above rendering.
but seoul mayor official anti policy about to floating ship in han river. he is the one who dismiss Yeuido harbor and yongsan harbor. So he allow New creative design harbor in 백남준다리?

So IF THIS BRIDGE WILL BE BUILT, i little bit skeptical whether same design to built or not. If predecessor Mr OH sae hun this 백남준 birdge 100% built. but this won sung mayor is worst guy. this man's first policy is so called "city farming". So he dosen't care about construction project in seoul.

That brown cladding and those small windows, I'm just not loving this one. Still, the Jonggak Stn. - Gwanghwamun Stn. stretch of Jongno must be looking pretty dense these days

Can't decide whether I should visit Busan or Seoul this spring...

Btw Inno, what have they done to the footpath? Looks like they've installed rock gardens or something?

I still love it. It's one if the more distinctive buildings in the whole city, and a nice change from the acres of glass that covers almost everything else people are building these days. Can't wait to visit Seoul again, even though it's going to be years .

중학천(junghakchon stream)
Glad talk with you.
If i understand your question well, then That rock garden and footpath is 중학천(junghakchon stream). it is one of part of total 2.5km stream flow from east gate of Kungbokkung. But paved 1957.

So Seoul government has a plan reconstruction those old stream originally.

Above photos part is 1 step. Seoul is going to reconstruction all of them total 3km.

I glad that you come to korea. welcome to Seoul.
