Yeah, when I saw the render I initially thought it might be better to just completely remove the flyover. However, thinking back, the Seoul Station neighbourhood is pretty hostile to pedestrians, so I think this will provide far better walking links through the area.

If one were to remove the flyover, I can't see how they'd realistically improve active modes through the area which, like so much of Seoul, is full of car choked multi lane roads.

Well, that was one of the complaints of businesspeople on both sides of the station, that there'd not really be a convenient way to get from one side to the other.

The cars-and-pedestrians issue is why I would ultimately support a development built, Hudson Yards-style, over the tracks north of the station, as that would allow pedestrians through, but not cars, which is Mayor Park's (supposed) ultimate goal....And, of course, it'd help the skyline developing in the area considerably.

The underground bus terminal at Lotte World Tower will be completed in the end of 2016:

Quote:
The transit center is for the red buses (Gyeonggi buses), commuter buses and tourist buses. There will be 23 parking spots and 8 platforms for buses. The construction begun in May 2014. The first completion date is December 2016
Quote:
We are going to see more transit centers at well-accessible, outer area of Seoul in the near future. The general policy direction is to minimize the amount of buses inside Seoul. Buses from outside Seoul are only going to serve such centers and passengers have to transfer to city buses or the subway. Even though the number of transfers is going to rise, it is going to have positive effects on travel time, too.

Yeah, I think that South Korea--or Seoul, anyway--is catching on to the whole induced demand, wide-roads=traffic thing. Better late than never, I guess. I do also wonder how many of these megaroads are for designed the way they are for defense purposes; I mean, roads like that are everywhere around the city.

Defense purposes as in ability to land a plane? This was part of the plans of the construction and expansion of the USA's highway system.

Yes, and also room for battalions of troops/tanks, need be. Sometimes it's easy to forget that not only was this megacity a pile of rubble just a few decades ago, but also that the cause of that former state is still very much a threat to it.

That being said, I'm ever so glad to see Seoul begin what I hope will be a very long-term road diet.

Actually those road huge lane is not because military emergency reason but just city plan like other city.

Right there are FEW concrete block installation beside road in seoul especially around ILSAN(NORTHERN PART OF SEOUL)

But Seoul's car road's huge design is not concern with military reason.
