Are you sure?? I think you are talking of new year 2010. I am dead sure the mall opened in 2010 in a full fledged manner.
Simpark mall is just a mall by name as given by our "educated" corporation. See a mall has to fulfill several criteria for it to be categorised as a mall. otherwise it may be a shopping centre, commercial complex or market, whatever way you call it. Simpark is far far off from being a shopping centre, forget about being a mall.

No. Not any more. That's why I have written Commercial Complex. But it still houses the 45,000 sq ft 'Westside', several small format stores, couple of restaurants and some offices (your favourite 'Star Ananda' is one of them )

U can also add the Pantaloons and other Anchor shop stores!!...like the Pantaloons @ Gariahat & Kankurgachi & Spencers Rashbihari..

And also the never ending LAKE MALL!!

Those are standalone retail MBOs (Multi Brand Outlets) and not malls.

Ideally, World wide, a mall consists of
1. Several Retail Outlets or Stores including Anchor (Big format) stores. This will be Classified as Shopping Zone.
2. Multiplex
3. Speciality Restaurants & Open Food Courts.
If Other entertainment zones are present (like TimeZone @ South City Mall, Scary House @ Mani Square, Timbuktoo @ Forum) then the status of the Mall increases, just as in Star Categorisation of Hotels.

As I said in post # 53, Mukti World does not have a single retail outlet. So it can be classified as an Entertainment zone. We will create a separate category for such eshtablishments. RDB in SECTOR V is similar.

Technically, Haldirams is a Huge Food Store & Banquets.

You see, we Indians misuse the term 'Mall' a lot, since the day we borrowed this format from the West. If a store or a market is big in size, the builders & we start calling it a Mall. You should see what 'Malls' are in the west. I presume the smallest ones are about 1 million sq ft. There are threads in western city forums.
