Still under construction. A billboard in front says "Opening Soon".
It 's been 5 years now since construction started in 2006. Probably has hit some roadblocks with shopkeepers & unions. You see, this is the difference between building an absolutely new mall in an empty land & converting an old market, filled with shops & stalls, to new mall.

thx samrat....for the update....its very difficult to complete a project from start-to-finish in bengal.....Only the website of fun cinemas says it will be opening its doors in lake mall soon...now it seems the project is in doldrums......tough luck kolkata!!!!!!!!11

Malls like Forum Courtyard, City Centre NewTown & Axis Mall were announced in 2007, later than Lake Mall, but have already been launched in 2010. There is particularly some problem with this, I guess.
My guess is that in between there were some problems with market Unions / shopowners as to their proper relocation. This is the headache when you try to convert something old (that too a busy market) to new. But seeing the recent pace (about 80% complete), I feel we might be in for a year end opening.
By the way the mall is looking quite swanky. Will try to post a pic soon.

Add one more RD Mall Liluah half opened with INOX, Cafe Coffe day, Dominos pizza and big Bazzar.

I have seen the facade for Lake Mall developing for about 2 years now. The reason you have mentioned is responsible for the snail's pace of progress. It is very swanky..from the 1st or 2nd level onwards. The ground level is such a mess that it is hard to figure out where the entrance/exit is. The authorities need to clear up the surrounding mess of encroachment by hawkers including the flower bazaar.

Right. The ground floor is the problematic area because that's where the existing owners are supposed to be relocated. Also the perennial 'Hawker problem' needs to be sorted out.
By the way, wasn't this the mastermind of erstwhile Mayor Subrata Mukherjee? That's why the roablocks in the last 5 years. Now, I feel, it will be complete.

Shots were taken on a weekday afternoon. You dont see too many people in malls around that time, do you???
Beisdes, Forum has selective footfalls. People generally dont have too much space to hang around as it is not very big. In South City mall or City Centre mall things are much different.

Is AMP Baisakhi a full fledged mall?? I had seen billboards that it was marketed as a commercial complex.

You are right ... AMP is probably a hybrid of shopping & commercial complex. The structure is imposing compared to the surrounding low rise buildings.
