Hajimemashite.
Sorry I don't know anything about backpacking but I found this website about backpacking in Japan that could help you:http://www.the-backpacking-site.com/...-overview.html What kind of volunteering are you thinking of? Do you mean in the earthquake region? |

Is there a long-period weather forecast for Japan?
One of my hosts worried me about typhoon season... I wanna sun! |

I think long term forecasts are always innacurate. The rainy season is over so you will see sun if you come. Even if a typhoon comes it only lasts for a day and it actually makes it cooler. The sunniest time period would be the winter though.
This is a good website for weather in Japan: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2273.html |

Yes, I am!
I'll write, but please - tomorrow :-). I'm after 13h travel and 7h time-change, so now I must sleep some hours, I'm totally exhausted ;-). Of course I will make a photo thread too when I find myself in 12Gb of pics. Oyasuminasai! |

So lets go!
First - yes, some things in this thread was really helpful :-) - rental mobile phone (I took SoftBank one), some advices about taking pics of Tokyo, about weather (yeah, I escaped from Tokyo... it's a hell in August!). Finally I got 2 week JRPass and it was really good decision, I used it pretty much. It was around 45000Y and according to Jorudan Site I made travels for... 105000Y. What places did I visit? - Tokyo / Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ueno, Ginza, Monzen Nakacho, Kiba, Asakusa and more // Roppongi Hills observatory (!), Metropolitan Gov. observatory, Ueno ZOO ;-), Hibiya Park, Imperial Palace areas, Hamarikyu and more... public bath ![]() - Yokohama / Minato Mirai, Chinatown and more // Landmark observatory (!) - Kamakura - Karuizawa and near towns - Komoro, Miyota, 2 popular (for Japanese, not foreigners) waterfalls - Himeji - Kobe and Sannomiya / Kobe waterfront and city center - Osaka / Castle, city center, Namba - Kyoto / some temples, Fushimi Inari Torii - Okayama / Castle and japanese garden - Onomichi / hills - Hachinohe / unfortunetely I didn't have time to see the sea :/ It was amazing trip. I really reccomend all of you CouchSurfing. It gives a possibility to see places not popular for foreigners (like Onomichi, Komoro, public bath...) and making friends. Really love it! I don't want to write too much here, I will make a thread with pics and write there more impressions. PS I love Japan! ;-) Last edited by kaspric; August 28th, 2011 at 12:05 AM. |

Sorry for delay :-). I wanted to wait for making thread... and it took much more time than I thought. Here it is!
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...8#post83462718 It's on polish forum and first post is only in Polish (it's about things you know about because of "Visiting Japan" thread, like where I was etc.), but if you want I will make every description in English too (or maybe not every description, but the ones you could be curious of - which will tell you smth about my feelings and view about Japan). So please write a reply there to make me sure, that it's worth of translating. Of course I'm looking forward for your questions about my trip - maybe it will be better in that thread. Feel free to use English (or Japanese haha) of course. I will make sets like 10 pics in reply, so please be patient - this thread will be alive for some weeks or months :-) About Himeji - yes, the castle is under reconstruction... but it was very comfortable to live there and go to Osaka and Kobe by shinkansen or Rapid train. The station in Himeji is in city centre, so I didn't have to think "where is my hotel?". Japanese food is VERY good. Really - some dishes like Ramen are very similar to polish ones. And there was no food I couldn't it. And I love Garigarikun, cheap and good ... but I will write about everything in my thread, so this is enough here.
