I don't have any postable images, but I do have a few Google Streetview links:

-Green Bay, WI (one of the most bland six-story buildings that I have ever seen, especially compared with the fantastic Brown County Courthouse, located diagonally across the street - rotate the image to see it):

http://maps.google.com/?ll=44.513308...6.91,,0,-12.66

-Oshkosh, WI (originally a high school):

http://maps.google.com/?ll=44.020149...12,82.84,,0,-8

-Appleton, WI ('City Hall' is the top two floors and part of the first floor of a former department store - the city has never used a building that was purposely designed and built as a city hall):

http://maps.google.com/?ll=44.261817...,0,-18.62&z=18

Madison, WI (City-County building - pan slightly to the right to see its location in relation to the state capitol and that nice target that the city so conveniently built into the street, for when the killer zombies attack):

http://maps.google.com/?ll=43.07263,...3.39,,0,-17.28

Enjoy!

while i certainly wouldn't say that chicago's city hall is in the same league as say san fran's or philly's in the beauty department, it's still pretty sweet from a "massively over-scaled and decidedly inhuman monument to governmental authority" perspective. this beast is just massive, taking up a full city block in the heart of downtown.

and here's the annex structure, the daley center, built in the 60s after the chicago/cook county bureaucracy outgrew the original building.

i find the daley center to be perhaps the most beautiful modernist skyscraper anywhere in the world, but i understand i have unusual tatses, so don't bother telling me that i'm stupid for having mad love for "just another stupid old boring black box". the daley center is simply magical to me.

Chicago's is beautiful, and an excellent example of urban American neoclassical.

The concept of a grand public building facing a public square is -unfortunately- rare in Chicago. I never cared for the 60s Daley Center next door to the original city hall.

Of all the other city halls posted in this thread, I really like the following:

Los Angeles, Cleveland, Providence, Worcester (MA), Baltimore, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Buffalo, Tulsa, Charleston, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma City, Richmond's old one (VA), Columbus, Cincinatti, New York, San Francisco, Detroit's old one, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Jacksonville (FL), Seattle, Washington (DC), Houston

Buffalo's is indeed great architecture, but it looks a little oversized for its environment. Maybe the area was once denser?

Pittsburgh's is an excellent example of urban American beaux-arts. It's always been one of my favorite pre-WWII buildings in America.

eh:
Orlando, Phoenix, Miami

Miami's looks like a 50s diner.

The eyesores:

South Bend (IN), Hennepin County building (MN), Tucson, Richmond's new one (VA), Clearwater (FL), Fresno, Baton Rouge, San Diego, Boston, New Orleans, El Paso, Detroit's new one

Fresno's looks like an ugly spaceship from Planet Waquartiijskluupjinsk landed in the middle of California

Boston's is just butt-ugly. Totally inappropriate for this beautiful, historic city.

an odd statement, considering it was the clearing of the block immediately east of city hall in the '60s to make way for the daley center that allowed for the public square that city hall now overlooks. before the daley center there was no public square of any kind around city hall.

sort of ironic that skyscrapers filled with corporate offices now tower over it, as if they have the authority now. (some of them do)

Tampa's City Hall - Not the best in the country, but can't say it's the worst either. Somewhere in the middle maybe?

image hosted on flickr

St. Petersburg' City Hall- Could do way better but don't expect a new building any time soon from them.

actually, in the immediate vicinity of city hall, the tallest tower that looms over it is the daley center at 650' tall, and that's yet another "massively over-scaled and decidedly inhuman monument to governmental authority".

I didn't know that. If it was the 60s, I'm assuming they razed attractive pre-WWII buildings? Not surprising for that era.
