The renders for this project look horrendous. Are they likely to change much after approval by the council?

We might get one or two but don't get your hopes up. What we're seeing is just a computer generated 3D model and then print screen from various angles. They've gone into as much detail as possible and done their best with colour given what their software provides.

Student conversion for fire station
Lisa Pilkington 30/06/2011 11:57

Student accommodation developer and construction firm Watkins Jones has submitted plans to transform Birmingham's former Central Fire Station into a 30-storey tower block.

The developer plans to convert the Grade II-listed station and West Midlands Fire Service headquarters at Lancaster Circus into a £30m mixed-use scheme providing new student accommodation, shops, leisure and business space.

The scheme has been designed by fledgling Birmingham architect K4 and comprises 826 student rooms.

Subject to consent, work is scheduled

Phase 2 of the new student residences, have a look at the construction sub-forum for the thread to see what's going on.

will do neil,

The protruding glass boxes either side make this build look absolutely horrible, Without these I think it would become bare-able.

following on from what walsh had did, it inspired me to do a more accurate model too see the scale of the building from a more human perspective instead of that of a bird. i have to say im not warming to this scheme a little

That just reinforces my thoughts that it has got to be 2 towers.

Mmm I wouldn't be so much of a fan of that. I think if they just separated the two elements then they'd look good like that.

Though, I've never really been a fan of twin towers where they're both the same height.
