But football has changed since those days. It's a feat that is unlikely to be repeated. If Liverpool looked like a team that had taken its time to gel, started the season badly and then finished it in flying form, then there might be reason for genuine hope. But they haven't been flying at all. Their league form in the second half of the season has been dire - almost relegation material. There is no sense of a team on the cusp of great things. That's not to say that Liverpool won't improve next season. Just that they won't improve enough in so short a time to erase the massive gap of 34 points (as things stand) between them and the champions - especially since Man City, in particular, are likely to make even bigger improvements. |

I dont think he was talking about the standard of the football but more the excitement and crazy finish to the league campaign. |

And yes, most Israelis are Jews and -berg is the commonest of endings for Jewish surnames. But only an anti-semite would refer to Israelis by the pejorative "Jewbergs". So I repeat, you getting uppity about someone else's use of "gippo" is more than a tad hypocritical. |

Not sure about that Jim.
We've had 4 or 5 poor performances this season but we've largely played very good pass and move football and this team has looked very dangerous at times. I saw a statistic a while ago from Optastats showing that Liverpool were at or around the top of the charts for a surprising number of stats such as chances created, time spent in opposition half (amazingly we were 2nd in Europe after Barca), tighest defence in the league (only bettered by the 2 Manc teams I think) but the not-very surprising stat was that we were dead bottom of the table for the percentage of chances converted. It's almost exclusively been poor finishing that has cost us this season. It's telling that if all shots that hit the woodwork from all teams this season had gone in, Liverpool would be playing Champions League football next season. That being said, hitting the woodwork is technically a shot off target and again can be put down to poor finishing. We just desperately need to improve our finishing! The amount of times we've squandered one-on-one chances after great through-balls, sky'd the ball from three feet out and missed penalties (67% not scored!) is heart breaking. The build up play, possession-based football, huge amount of chances created and very solid defence we've seen under Kenny has kept me hoping that this team could come good. Very good in fact. I'm not saying we're going to win the league next year but as somebody who has watched every game in full this season rather than just Match of the Day highlights I'd have to say that we have shown signs that we could be in amongst the top four next year and the stats (damned lies - I know) back that up. It's the leap from where you are now to being Champions within twelve months that I believe to be completely unrealistic. Delusional, even! In two, three or four years, and with a fair wind.......who knows? But next season? Nah. |

Well...
I predict Chelsea will field a severely weakened team as they prepare of the CL final. While Blackburn who have nothing to play for will go hammer and tong to restore some pride. |

Blackburn have beaten Arsenal and Man Uniteds first teams this year.
Relegated teams normally go all out on the last day. |
