Now the ROB is not planned for BOT it will be done by govt funds. Also Highways is planning for a flyover in Ganapathy core area but the DPR only will confirm all these assumptions. http://asappmedia.com/CMS/Newsletter...les/66045.html NHAI's DPR on widening NH 209 by Mar Friday, January 06, 2012 The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is studying the feasibility of widening the 268 km stretch of NH 209 (Dindigul to Coimbatore and Coimbatore to Karnataka border via Annur) into a four-lane road. The detailed project report (DPR) is likely to be prepared by March next. An official of NHAI told a leading south Indian newsapaper on December 5 that the earlier proposal was to widen the existing road so that the two-lane road would have paved shoulders on either side. However, since this was not feasible for various reasons, the NHAI was studying the possibility of a four-lane road. It would also study whether service roads would be needed on either side of the four lane road, the traffic pattern, financial viability, and environmental impact. Yes, BOT till Bannari. And it will bypass CBE city. They will hand over the road to HMPD like Avinashi Road. Then hopefully state govt will do something. Also, GMaps has updates South CBE a little. Here:10°56'15.48" N 76°58'50.23" E You can see what looks like pillars for a flyover over the tracks on Pollachi Road ... |

NHAI will hand over Sulur-City center, City center-Saravanapati, Malumichampati-city center roads to SH after completion of bye-pass for NH-81 and 209. This inturn delaying the expansion of city roads. I hope the S. gvt press for speedy execusion of bye-pass road so that city roads can get freedom from NHAI which will help in upgrading those arterial roads like Avinashi road. Quote:

Textool bridge works to resume soon
Textool bridge works to resume soon
The State Highways Department will resume works soon to complete a two-lane road over bridge near Textool here. ![]() ![]() According to an official of the department, the State Government has announced the project in its policy note. The railway crossing near Textool currently has a two-lane road over bridge. Another two-lane road overbridge would be constructed at a total cost of Rs. 20 crore. The details would be finalised and tenders floated once the Government Order is issued. The initial plan was to construct two road over bridges (ROB), near Textool (an industrial unit), to enable smooth flow of traffic between the city and Ganapathy area. However, just one two-lane bridge was constructed. The railways constructed the two-lane ROB near Textool while doubling the railway line. The old ROB was brought down and construction of another ROB was taken up by the National Highways. Even as works commenced for the second project, the Union Government decided to execute all improvement works under public-private partnership mode. The funds sanctioned for the bridge were withdrawn. With works for the second bridge coming to a standstill, vehicles towards or from Ganapathy area were using the two-lane road and this led to traffic snarls. According to K. Kathirmathiyon, secretary of Coimbatore Consumer Cause, the State Government announcement is a relief as the road infrastructure will be improved soon in the area. http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/...cle3355789.ece |

Multi-level parking lots being designed for city
Multi-level parking lots being designed for city
![]() ![]() They will come up at the rear of shopping complexes The multi-level parking lots the Coimbatore Corporation has planned across the city will form part of shopping complexes. At least that is what the civic body is thinking of. Commissioner T.K. Ponnusamy told The Hindu that the Corporation had asked a designing company to prepare the design in such a way that the front portion of the multi-level car parking building was a shopping complex and the rear parking lot. The design would be applicable to all the parking lots in the city. Assistance The Corporation is building the parking lots in R.S. Puram (D.B. Road), Town Hall (Big Bazaar Street) and Gandhipuram (Cross Cut Road) with financial assistance from the Local Planning Authority. The parking lots would be ‘Ground Plus Three' (G+3) structures, accommodating shops on the ground and three flours. On the rear, at parking lots, it would have five levels, which would be accommodated within the G Plus Three format. Mr. Ponnusamy explained that since the height of parking levels need not be the same as the shopping floor, five levels could be accommodated. The parking lots would be automated. From the entrance, the cars would be taken to a hydraulic jack, lifted and then placed at empty bays. As the cars roll in they would be electronically tagged for easy retrieval. The Commissioner also said that the Corporation had asked designer to allow 15 per cent of the space for future expansion at the multi-level parking lots. And the number of cars at each of the parking would be decided after a detailed traffic study. A study the consultancy firm Wilbur Smith carried out for the Corporation said that the Big Bazaar Street parking lot could accommodate cars in space that equalled 82 passenger car equivalents, Cross Cut Road 495 passenger car equivalents and D.B. Road 111 passenger car equivalents. The Corporation had earlier decided to avail itself of grant instead of loan from the Local Planning Authority. This was in December last year. http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/...cle3355787.ece |

NH 47: gearing up to provide a new driving experience
The daily users of NH 47, including large cargo trucks, industry and institution buses, private vehicles, and two-wheelers, who compete for space and have to cut down on speed drastically when often confronted by traffic hurdles will soon have a whole new driving experience on the stretch. NH 47, one of the busiest National Highways roads in this region, is a beehive of construction activity now.
The stretch is almost unidentifiable in many areas as it is getting ready to be a six-lane road. From Chengapalli to Neelambur, for 42 km, the stretch is getting widened and has at least a couple of features that are to the standards of an expressway. According to an official of the National Highways Authority of India here, this will be an access control stretch. At no point on the main carriageway can pedestrians, vehicles or animals cross the road. The road from Chengapalli to Walayar (42 km of six lane and 12 km of four lane) will have 36 vehicle/cattle/pedestrian underpasses. For almost every one to one-and-a-half km, there is an underpass. Those who need to go from one village to another on the stretch can use the service road and the underpasses. Another major feature is that the road is designed to a permitted vehicle speed of 100 to 120 km per hour. The official says that vehicles that want to travel from point-to-point (Chengapalli to Walayar or Walayar to Chengapalli) can take any lane on the main carriageway. Vehicles that want to divert to any other location should use the last lane and the exit ramps that will be provided on either side of the road. Apart from these, the road will have three flyovers (at Karumathampatti, Neelambur and Madukkarai). The road works will be completed by the end of March next year. It will have six lanes of main carriageway and two-lane service roads on either side. The Rs. 852-crore project is implemented on a build-operate-transfer model. http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper...cle3366155.ece |

Even in trichy road from sungam to GH, they did put old lamps instead of the leaf type lamps. I think the present mayor is not interested in all these beautifying the city.
