Should Australia and New Zealand change their flags?

Since Australia and New Zealand are both independent countries now and are no longer controlled from London, I find it a bit weird that they still maintain flags that depict them as being British colonies.

What's you take on this?

We are both still part of the British Commonwealth, our head of state is the queen.

While we are still part of the Commonwealth, I see no reason to change the flag. If we were to become a republic (which is another question altogether) we would definitely need to change the flag.

Personally, I would like to see us become a republic in the nearish future.

I don't see any chance of a republic til the Queen carks it.

I don't see why... the queen is our head of state because she is the queen of australia, not because she's the queen of britain. The commonwealth is not the british commonwealth anymore either, we wouldnt even need to leave if we were a republic.

I think you should have followed Canada's path.With all the miserable acts that occurred in the past with the British, I fail to see why you would still be comfortable with such a flag.

You really need a republic!A monarchy is some old fashion thing that needs to be scrapped.

It's just a flag, it makes no difference what's on it, it's not going to change the past.

You need a head of state who is not also a head of state of another country especially the former colonialists!This way, some of your interests can still be maintained and wont come into conflict with another country.

Nothing will change unless we become a republic. Hopefully it will happen but i'm not holding my breath. We had a referendum about this a while back.

For someone who thinks australia should be free of foreign influence, you seem to have a lot of opinions about what we should and shouldn't do.

I'm just advocating for more freedom to run your country as you wish and not be obstructed by another country far a way which also shares the same head of state as you are.You should be able to be MORE independent and it's so ironical that you still fancy stuff from your former colonialists that treated you during the past.
