The colors, design and the overall feeling from Milano metro stations is horrible. Why do they do that to this city? Even the newest 5-line wont look good.
I've been several times to Milano and used the metro a lot. It brings you to many locations, and with the new line 5 (when finished) and MM4 (if built) it will serve the city quite well.
Why do they make the stations look so ridiculous? Where's the italian style, elegance?

I do agree someway.

I think it is because of the original design of M1 (by Noorda) that was a '50s concept.
Everything after that wants to be a reinterpretation of that style, often with poor results

Do you find its passengers' behaviour a culture shock? Do they happen to behave or hold themselves differently?

The Builder is "Carminati & Toselli" (not "Caminiti & Toselli").

Apparently Line 5 will open between Zara and Bignami on May 31, but intermediate stations will not open then. This is according to urbanrail.net (http://urbanrail.net/news.htm#next).

Does anyone have more information about this, esp. why the intermediate stations will not open?

Simply because the line isn't ready.
As far as I understand, it will last also a couple of day during the meeting with Pope Benedict XVI, and closed again to be completed.

It will be used as a sort of orizontal elevator to move masses of people from Zara M3 station to Bignami, next to the meeting site.

So Milan is taking the Mecca model, opening a metro just for pilgrims.

May be! 1 million people is expected to join the meeting, and the normal local transport isn´t quite enough. So the authorities thought about this temporary solution. Will it be worth of? I don´t think, but it´s better than nothing.

The real opening shall be in late autumn/early winter.

Trust a cleric to be inducing record metro ridership for a day, eh? Coz that papal visit hailing from 1984 still hasn't been championed in Montreal ...

I wanted to back the topic on suburban railways

In 2011 new stations on S9 enter service doubling an old single track South West of Milan

Corsico

Cesano Boscone

Trezzano sul Naviglio

Gaggiano

Albairate-Vermezzo
