ATM needs to abolish the trolleybus (as in: electric buses running on dual wiring) lines 90/91 and build a circle rail-based or monorail line on its place. .

This is the route in question

Why? It seems like other routes are more needed.

To allow more tangential route capacity. At the very least, they should convert the whole thing into light-rail.

A light rail line on this track was already planned in the 1970s.ATM bought 100 light rail vehicles for this line, but the construction works never started.

And, let me say, it will never be too late to retrieve this idea. Such a transformation will affect, IMHO, the city in a positive way we can partly immagine.

A light rail station with wheelchair access... in the 1970's! In that age, no one thought of it!

Of course, now-a-days, the Sirios just have low floors. No need for high platforms.

In the Federal Republic of Germany, the first Light Rails with underground sections and level access were projected in the 1960s in the Ruhr Region.

That's true, but unfortunately the low-floor trams cannot travel as fast as the old Light Rail Vehicles.

It's true.

Old high-floor LRV's had more internal space because bogies were located under the floor. In low-floor LRV's, the "wheels box" occupy much internal space.

The old LRV could travel until 70-80 km/h. It would be impossible to go that fast on a Sirio tram.

A new suburban railway line (S7) has been opened today.

When I lived in Milan I always went out of my way to use the 90/91 instead of the trams because I always felt they were way faster.

The vehicles look similar to those built in the 80s for Torino. Same concept, high-floor-system with even underground parts. Other examples were Genova and Naples.

Personally I think low-floor wll always be an expensive compromise and will never reach comfort and maintainability like high-floor. It´s just stupid, that high-floor platforms are banned from the city if you take a look at what car-traffic creates as visual impact in cities. Only high-floor platforms create real ability for disabled People with wheelchairs. It´s not possible to have the wished minimum space of 5 cm between platform and train with low-floor

Kind regards
