Seasun would be way better at that.... I'm not a technical guy.
They appear to be building caissons, as described on pages 21-22 of this primer: http://xnet.rrc.mb.ca/garyg/FOUNDATI...oundations.pdf. This is time-consuming. Since Colman isn't going underground you won't see a hole except as needed for footings, elevator pit, etc. Even that might be time-consuming since there's 150 years (?) of history down there. |

I suggest a google image search for: pilecap rebar
or similar phrases and you should see lots of similar work and you'll find related website. The rebar piles go way down into the earth and then the "pilecap" is the transition to the building's structural frame - if this building is built the way I think it is based on driving by it a couple days ago. |

Just as a very general idea how long until we start to see something that resembles a structure or a first floor or something?

Is that an accurate size? Seems taller than the renderings.

It may be.....it was just an approximate attempt. The buildings directly in back are 8 or 9 stories so I just doubled it.

Interesting. Thanks regardless. I always like visuals.
I'd kill for rendering of the entire skyline that included the Clise properties proposal from 2008, 5th and Columbia, 5th and Madison, 1012 1st Ave, the North Lot development through phase 2 with optional office buildings over the rails, the Civic Center, and the James Corner Field Operations Waterfront proposal. THAT would be something to salivate over. |

I played around with Google Sketchup a couple years ago to produce this rendering of what the skyline would look like with the supposed "Trump Tower Seattle" proposal, which probably wasn't ever going to amount to anything.

If I was any good at that kind of stuff I would make the one I wrote about. I would settle for a flat 2D picture even with just all those projects overlaid onto one skyline. But alas that is not one of my gifts.

Is the James Corner Field Operations Waterfront Proposal the proposal the city is considering most seriously for the post-viaduct waterfront?

My understanding is the city has hired (after a selection process about a year ago) the James Corner firm to design the new waterfront. There have a been at least two public meetings with Corner. Here's the website devoted to the project: http://waterfrontseattle.org/home/
