First flight at KLIA2 terminal by Malindo Air

Quote:
klia2 opens its door without a glitch

By Azura Abas and Akil Yunus | [email protected]

SEPANG: The operations of klia2 last night have taken off without any major glitch with the arrival of first aircraft Malindo Air flight OD1027 as scheduled.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said it was a historical moment for the nation when klia2 opened its door.

"Everything runs very smoothly...We are proud with klia2 as the national icon," Abdul Aziz told reporters after welcoming the passengers arriving from Kota Kinabalu on flight OD1027.

The first passenger to enter the arrival hall was Datuk Patrick Teoh Seng Foo, executive chairman of Andaman Group.
Teoh, who was returning to KL following a business trip in Kota Kinabalu was pleasantly surprised to find out his was the first flight to land at the new terminal.

"We were informed beforehand that the plane would land at klia2 and not LCCT, but I was not aware that it was also the first flight to do so," he told reporters.
He said the flight had actually reached the KL airspace before midnight but had circled the air for nearly 20 mins so that it could land after midnight on May 2.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad managing director Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid said in Malaysia 50 per cent of passengers opted for low cost airline and the other 50 per cent used the full-pledge airlines.

"This is the best (low-cost airport) in the region...and I am sure more low cost airlines being set up, they will be interested to use klia2," he said, adding that security at the new airport was as secured as an airport should be.
On the delay departure of Cebu Pacific flight 5J502 to Manila, Bashir said the delay happened because it arrived in klia2 later than the scheduled time at1.20am.

It was later announced that the Cebu Pacific flight to Manila would only depart at 3.15am.

Rusdi Kirana would be very happy with that

By the way, I am very glad that the opening of the airport went without any single glitch. Not even minor glitches, I assume

Compared to KLIA2, what we have in here is often miserable. It is common that new airport or airport terminal are opened way earlier than scheduled. Exposing passengers to construction dust or hazard. Not to mention unready equipments.

I've been to Kualanamu and Juanda T2 when they were both brand new (I came on the second day of operation). Compared to KLIA2, they were shame back then (and probably still is for Juanda T2, which has yet to complete its international wing).
Not just due to the lack of facilities or shops, but also by the fact that construction dust and debris were still littering the public area. Some could even endangered airport users.

Lombok Praya was the worst. Its computer and baggage handling facilities were anything but usable when it was (prematurely) opened for public.

Back to the topic, congratulation for KL people. Now you have a world clas "LCCT" terminal.

The problem in our country is, is that many airports and other projects are opened premature/before it is really complete and finished, only because the leaving gouvernor/bupati/mayor wants to connect his name with the airport/project with a spectacular opening and the engraved stone, like the existence of the project is because of him.

Lets take a look at the aviobridge/garbarata and the interior of the terminal.

Only one coffeeshop was already opened and 70 meters away from it two persons were selling breads and cans of softdrink on a table.
The interior looks modern and good, I liked the lighting too. There were many unused spaces and also the aisle from the waitingroom to the aviobridge was too long, showing even more useless spaces. So although the new terminal looks good, it isn’t build as efficiently as the existing part of KLIA. One disappointment were the toilets, just four days in use and already starting become dirty, it looks like there were not yet cleaning services in this terminal. I saw the same urine traces against the wall and on the ground in a couple of days without someone cleaned it, something (im sorry to say) I did not expect at KLIA.

There was also a wall-toilet/urinoir specially fro children, small people, people with short legs or people with a very large one...

As bonus a panoramaview.

I love KLIA2. I remember seeing it being built across the years. Congrats to everyone in KL and Malaysia for this remarkable achievement. Here in Qatar we are also celebrating the opening of our new airport; so pretty exciting few weeks of aviation in both countries.

I was lucky enough to be able to use KLIA 1 when it was brand new in 1999. Will I be able to visit KLIA 2 when it's still new?
