SZB MASTERPLAN
http://subangskypark.com/future-developments/#!

Quote:
TERMINAL 2 (T2)
Riding high on the remarkable success of SkyPark Terminal 3, Subang SkyPark endeavoured to expand its operations and thus began the planning to reconstruct the Terminal 2.

This next phase of development will entail the refurbishment of the former Terminal 2 (T2) of the SAAS airport into an extension of the SkyPark Terminal 3. With T2, a new 59-year concession agreement has been signed mid-2013 with an estimated investment of RM170 million. Works are scheduled to commence mid-2016 with an estimated construction period of 24 months.

With a terminal extension of 320,000 sq ft, the project will include airport facilities and services and a multilevel car park of 400,000 sq ft with 1,155 bays. The extension will also include an entertainment/event deck that overlooks the runway, a first of its kind, open to public, in Malaysia.

SKYPARK BUSINESS AVIATION CENTRE EXPANSION
The recent increase in corporate aviation in the region has driven SkyPark to expand its Business Aviation Centre facilities. The development of the expansion to the SkyPark Business Aviation Centre is scheduled to commence in mid-2016 with an investment cost of RM5milllion. The 15,000 sq ft centre will cater to the discerning needs of high-end business travellers and high net-worth individuals with state of the art luxury lounges, meeting rooms and other facilities, while providing total privacy and high security.

SKYPARK COMMERCIAL NEXUS
SKYPARK COMMERCIAL NEXUS is a mixed development commercial project on a 5.13 hectare plot adjoined to the main terminal. Estimated to cost RM250 million, among the proposed highlights of the Nexus would be a hotel, entertainment and F&B outlets, aviation museum, a hypermart and an aviation theme park. A multi-storey car park is also included. Construction work is expected to commence in Q2 of 2016.

SKYPARK LINK – COMMUTER STATION AND RAIL LINK
The soon-to-be introduced railway line, the SkyPark Link, with its new Electrified Double-Track Branch Commuter Line route from Subang Jaya, with a station stop at SkyPark will connect SkyPark Subang to KL Sentral. The initial phase of 8 km is almost completed and work on the second/final phase is expected to commence soon. The rail link would also become a catalyst for the development of the MIAC and SkyPark as a major logistic hub of the region by effectively linking rail, road and air facilities thus rendering SkyPark Subang as a fully integrated and complete multimodal transport hub. It would serve to meet the ever increasing demand for connectivity and transportation in the region.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) finally crossed 50 million passengers landmark on 12-month rolling basis (Aug 2015 - Jul 2016), becoming 25th airport in the history to do so.

KLIA way back in 1998 so much better compared with now. Too many tacky decorations and kiosks spread everywhere inside the terminal.

Passenger statistics

Source : Ministry of Transport

Link :
http://www.mot.gov.my/en/resources/quarter...cs-of-transport

KLIA

Q1 2016 : 5,258,018 passengers
Q2 2016 : 5,900,180 passengers
Q3 2016 : 7,010,716 passengers

Total : 18,168,914 passengers

KLIA 2

Q1 2016 : 7,192,944 passengers
Q2 2016 : 6,357,527 passengers
Q3 2016 : 6,547,458 passengers

Total : 20,097,929 passengers

Grand total of KUL (Q1 - Q3 2016) : 38,266,843 passengers

My opinion

- If you look at the whole KLIA itself, on average, each quarter had registered 12.755 million passengers
- According to World Airport Awards, the category '50 million and above passengers' is the highest category of airport size
- For KLIA to reach 50 million pax this year, it only needs another 11.733 million passengers
- KLIA is on track to reach the 50 million passenger figure, because fourth quarter is usually the busy period (holiday season)

After all of these years, KLIA 1 is still a grandeur airport terminal. I hope that I can revisit the place once again.
By the way why do they want to rebuilt Subang airport? Is there increasing demand of flight from there?

I think the strength of Subang Airport is because it is so close to major population centers. It is convenient for people living there. I don't think bilions will be spent there in the future. They are just using facilities that already existed there for small local flights.

KUALA LUMPUR: Works on the new Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre (KL ATCC) at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Sepang, is on track to be completed by March 2019. Upon completion, the new KL ATCC will feature a new air traffic management system that is capable of handling an increasing number of aircraft traffic at KLIA and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2).

Advanced Air Traffic Systems (M) Sdn Bhd (AAT), a company that provides maintenance and integrated logistics support services for air traffic control (ATC) radar and systems, is the main contractor for the RM647.06 million project. Officials from the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) said AAT was selected as the main contractor when the project was opened to bidders in April last year through the local open tender.

“Finmeccanica from Italy, which was named by AAT as their partner during the tender, has been appointed the main original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for this project,” said DCA officials. Three companies took part in the tender process of the new system, with Italian company Leonardo-Finmeccanica’s subsidiary, Selex ES, winning the project.

The other two companies were France’s Thales Group and Spanish Indera Systemas. DCA officials said all three foreign companies were considered as they were the major air traffic systems providers in the world. They added that the companies had participated in the tender through their local partner as the main OEM during the tender as required by the government. The government awarded two contracts under the project, which includes the main contract that costs RM594.66 million, and an independent checker consultant (ICC) with the cost of RM52.4 million.

Meanwhile, TRC Synergy Bhd was also included as the sub-contractor for the civil works of the new centre by AAT. In March, TRC Energy secured RM88 million sub-contracts to undertake several projects at KLIA and other locations via its subsidiary, Trans Resources Corp. The sub-contract includes building an air traffic control centre and associated works at KLIA and other locations. To recap, the government had allocated RM700 million in the 2014 Budget for the construction of a new air traffic control management centre — to be the new home for the KL ATCC in Subang.

The new centre will enhance KLIA’s competitiveness as a regional aviation hub as the existing centre in Subang has been operating for 20 years and faces challenges in technology upgrade, director-general of Civil Aviation Malaysia Datuk Sri Azharuddin Abdul Rahman was quoted as saying in February 2014. Selex ES has been partnering with AAT on the maintenance and integrated logistic support ser- vices for air traffic control (ATC) radar and systems.

In 1994, the firm, which has been operating in Malaysia for about 20 years, won a contract to supply primary and secondary radars for airports in Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Johor Bharu, Labuan, Langkawi and Sepang. Selex ES, which was then known as Alenia-Marconi, also upgraded Malaysia’s civil aviation radar network in 1999. The company then changed its name to Selex Sistemi Integrati in 2009 and won the RM128.4 million ATC system contract for the National Air Traffic Control Centre from the government.
