Forested delight at MAS lounge
Thursday April 24, 2008 TheStar

Cool retreat: Sadasivan and Malaysia Airlines corporate marketing and loyalty
programme general manager Raja Datuk Nordiana Zainal Shah testing the
facilities during the opening of the Regional lounge in KLIA yesterday.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) launched its new Regional Golden Lounge at the KL International Airport (KLIA) for regional-bound first and business class passengers.

The lounge design is based on the Rimba concept with visions of lush foliage, pristine forested valleys and perfect serenity, creating a quiet heaven for customers, said Malaysia Airlines’ deputy chairman Datuk S. Sadasivan.

“The Regional lounge will be where you begin your journey with Malaysia Airlines, and I’m confident that the rest of the journey will be well taken care of by our cabin crew,” he said in encouraging Malaysian Airports Holdings Berhad (MAB) to have more outlets.

He added that the RM4mil Regional Lounge had to match the standard of the award-winning KLIA.

The lounge is less than 10 minutes to the departure gates, accommodates 190 passengers and offers a wide range of services and facilities including spa service, reflexology, manicure and pedicure, children’s area, Muslim prayer room, Internet services, hot and cold food and full bar services.

It is open from 5am to 2am daily and Enrich Platinum and Gold Members have access to the lounge regardless of their class of travel.

Enrich Silver members can gain access to the lounge when they opt for the Golden Lounge Privilege programme or redeem their Enrich Miles on per-entrance basis.

Award-winning Malaysia Airlines won its latest “Best Economy Class” award in 2006 with 32 domestic and 86 international destinations.

KLIA now has three lounges – the Satellite Lounge, Domestic Lounge and the Regional Lounge.

The MAS Golden Lounges are also available in Johor Baru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Langkawi and Penang airports. Its International Airport lounges are in Brisbane, Frankfurt, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Perth, Singapore and Sydney.

Luxurious wait
Saturday August 9, 2008

Transit time is a pain, but why shouldn’t it be enjoyable?

Frequent flyers are all too familiar with the long transit waits. I myself had a 10-hour transit once and nearly went mad roaming the Suvarnabhumi Bangkok Airport — there’s only so much an airport can offer!

Thankfully, there are facilities to make your wait less painful. Malaysia Airlines (MAS) recently launched its new Regional Golden Lounge at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to cater to its regional-bound passengers.

testing out the iPod at the new MAS Golden Lounge in KLIA.

Located at the Main Terminal Building on Level 5, and open from 5am to 2am, the Lounge caters to MAS’ First and Business Class passengers and Enrich Gold and Platinum members. Enrich Silver members may use the Lounge by redeeming 8,000 Enrich Miles per entry or they can opt to pay an annual fee of RM2,000 for unlimited access to MAS Lounges worldwide.

“The idea for the Regional Golden Lounge is to create a hassle-free experience for our customers.

“We have put a lot of thought and effort into it as the lounge was developed based on customer feedback. We will be upgrading our current Lounges in stages under the theme ‘Echoes of Paradise’,” says MAS corporate marketing and loyalty programme general manager, Raja Datuk Nordiana Zainal Shah.

You will feel a sense of tranquillity as you walk into the lounge. It is based on the rimbun or foliage concept, which brings all the natural elements of wood, stone and water together to create a soothing and welcoming ambience.

Staff getting lunch ready

On the left is The Pavilion on the Clouds, a private area for families to relax or for businessmen to have a discussion. Tropical leaves hanging from the ceiling and a water feature add to the serenity of the place. The Pavilion also has the best views for plane-watching.

The buffet table offers a delicious spread of Western and Asian food while the Driftwood Lounge, the main seating area, is located right at the end. The Driftwood Lounge got its name from the driftwood that is twisted and treated to create an artistic, earthy feel.

My favourite part of the Lounge is the Santai Spa, which offers massages, reflexology, facials, pedicures and manicures. According to Raja Nordiana, the reflexology sessions are very popular with customers.

“The 40-minute reflexology is perfect for improving blood circulation in the feet. The Kilat Massage, an express massage on the neck, shoulder and back, is also very popular with our customers who need a quick pick-me-up before boarding their next flight.”

MAS partnered with Apple Inc to equip the spa with the iPod touch, a portable media player and Wi-Fi mobile platform. Guests can surf the Internet, view music videos on YouTube and listen to songs on the iPod while having their massage.

The lounge offers the best views for watching planes.

“We want to create a noise-free environment for our guests and the iPod touch does a great job for that. We have downloaded local music and videos so visitors can sample Malaysian culture,” says Raja Nordiana.

MAS now has three lounges — the Satellite Lounge, Domestic Lounge and the Regional Lounge. The MAS Golden Lounges are also available at Johor Baru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Langkawi and Penang airports.

Its International Airport lounges are in Brisbane, Frankfurt, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Perth, Singapore and Sydney.

Just let you know that BCIA Terminal 3 was designed by UK Architect Norman Foster which same architect of our The Troika, Petronas University of Technology while KLIA/KL Sentral (KL City Air Terminal) was designed by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa and developed by KL International Airport Berhad

I agree with this. KLIA is pretty efficient with immigration and lines are usually fairly short. The immigration officials are usually very friendly too.
