Another luxury boutique for air travellers
By CHARLES FERNANDEZ September 04, 2009

Eye-catching: Jewellery on display in a case.

BVLGARI, one of the world’s leading luxury brands, has opened its first boutique at the satellite terminal of the KL International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang.

The new store was officially opened by Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen recently.

It is the first store in the satellite terminal to sell a full range of products from jewellery to accessories.

The new store has separate counters featuring the different range of Bvlgari products.

“We are proud to be associated with a brand like Bvlgari which embodies premium quality designs for the discerning traveller.

“The opening of this exclusive boutique marks a significant addition to the presence of other luxury boutiques available at KLIA,’’ said Sharan Valiram, director of the Valiram Group.

Valiram added that they were proud to bring Bvlgari to KLIA as both the brands were internationally acclaimed and the luxury boutique is the company’s commitment to discerning travellers who are looking for high quality luxury brands.

The Valiram Group operates a number of retail outlets at both the Satellite Terminal and Domestic Airside of KLIA — namely Hermes, Montblanc, Coach, Dunhill, Hugo Boss, Tumi, Swiss Watch Gallery, Godiva and Flying Emporium.

Bvlgari first opened in Kuala Lumpur in 1990 and has two other stores located in KLCC and The Pavilion.

JPJ Detects New Tactics Of Airport Touts
September 09, 2009 18:04 PM

SEPANG, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has detected three tactics employed by touts to get passengers to use their illegal transport services from the KL International Airport (KLIA) and Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) to their destinations.

JPJ director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan said today one tactic was to buy a normal taxi coupon for a nearby destination and transport by the normal taxi a passenger who wanted to go to a distant destination until after the JPJ road block.

After passing the road block, the passenger would be transferred to a private car for the rest of the journey, he told a news conference at the KLIA.

Solah said another tactic was to get the passengers to use the Express Rail Link (ERL) service to Salak Tinggi before continuing the journey in a private car.

"The third tactic is to use the available taxi or shuttle service to get past the JPJ road block before transferring the passenger to a private vehicle," he said.

These tactics of the touts were detected by the JPJ which conducted 24-hour monitoring at the KLIA and the LCCT in cooperation with Malaysia Airports Berhad (MAB), he added.

Solah said JPJ did not rule out the possibility of collaboration with "insiders" and touts.

"JPJ has been going after touts in KLIA and LCCT since July by setting up road blocks. With incessant enforcement, much of the activity of the touts has been reduced," he said.

He said JPJ monitoring and operations since August last year had resulted in the detention of 50 touts, 28 of them at the KLIA and 22 at the LCCT.

He also said that JPJ impounded 159 vehicles between June 3 and July 7, comprising 39 cars, 25 buses, 80 taxis and 15 hire cars.

"Between July 17 and today, JPJ impounded 46 vehicles, comprising 21 cars, 24 taxis and one bus," he said.

KLIA To Facilitate Seamless Connection Between Carriers, Terminals
September 15, 2009 20:10 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- KL International Airport (KLIA) will introduce facilities called "Next Generation Hub" that enable passengers to connnect seamlessly between all types of carriers and between different types of terminals.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) announced this at the 15th World Route Development Forum that took place in Beijing from Sept 13 to 15, the company said in a statement Tuesday.

"Today's passengers are presented with numerous options from full service carriers, low cost carriers, various routings, prices and so on. The best option could be a combination of a full service carrier and low cost carrier.

"However, selecting the best combination of carriers, routing and price is not easy since there is no single portal for the passenger to use," said MAHB general manager (marketing) Sallauddin Mat Sah.

He said KLIA's Next Generation Hub would provide the passenger with "tools to plan an itinerary that best suit his or her needs, as well as the physical infrastructure to integrate and enable connections between full service and low cost carriers".

The airport operator said there was already a growing trend of passengers who self-connect between the Main Terminal Building and Low Cost Terminal at KLIA.

A study had revealed that there were at least 500 self-connect passengers per day or 1,000 passenger movements, representing an annual market of over 180,000 passengers, it added.

It said KLIA was well positioned as a Next Generation Hub as the airport offered both the largest volume of routes and traffic carried out by low cost carriers, making it a market leader in the sector in the Asia Pacific Region and globally.

"By capitalising on the trends and developments within the airline industry and consumer environment such as the rise of internet bookings and the era of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, MAHB is seizing the opportunity to create and shape a world first Next Generation Hub at KLIA and foresees that the number of connecting passengers between the two terminals could grow significantly in the next few years," Sallauddin said.

At Beijing forum, MAHB also launched www.flyklia.com. The website provides an itinery builder that integrates all airlines and fares, including full service carriers and low cost carriers.

"The portal is free to use and search results include links to airlines and travel agent websites where travellers can book flights directly.

"This portal will continue to be extensively enhanced over the coming months and MAHB is also looking at adding other initiatives such as an airport loyalty scheme for frequent flyers," Sallauddin said.
