They need to cut back costs. Domestic flights all around the world have cut back on meals and even snacks for years now. |

I have some Iranian friends going thru the same kind of problems, I just hope things get better in Iran... I have a question, does Iran/mahan air fly to Arbil, Iraq? How much is it usually from Tehran? I am inviting a friend to visit Kurdistan and spend a couple of nights there.

all Iranian airliners are going down with the current embargoes and fuel ban...
Mahan Air is also bad but still better than other Iranian carriers, Iranian ailines can be the best of the world, if they just would let us

Not being able to buy new parts and planes is a huge obstacle. Some people think sanctions is an excuse, it isn't. Its a small market and Iran is pretty much cut off from it.

sanctions are an excuse...
not if second hand planes make you happy no than it isn't... Iran is a huge market, Iran has millions of passengers every year, we have the biggest domestic network in Asia after India and China. Iran Air was once the best, if Iran hadn't these sanctions and good management we would reach the top once again, it's not only having new planes but service also, that's true, but we can, we can maybe not reach passengers under the IRI but wath we can get is quality and safety for all of us.

That can always be regained. The UAE cannot change geographics but Iran can change an Airline. Either we make our own planes or sanctions are removed whichever comes first.
I had a long discussion once with an employee of Hesa and he was telling me at we can build 747 if it were not for copy right laws which would prevent them being flown abroad. But with time we can alter the specs for even a 747 and build them ourselves. Sanctions are bad bad the effects on local relibility are great. We persians are of course very lazy people and need challenges to progess!! |

If they can build a 747 then why don't they just make a bunch of minor changes or couple major changes (which I'm sure they have the capability) now and fly them legally? These changes will surly be enough for it to pass the copy right laws.

Granted, I don't think producing an airplane is as easy as that, even if it is a 1:1 copy. |

It is sad, but it's never too late. Maybe one day, Iran will bounce back

Yeah I guess it makes sense. If they could also copy 1:1, they could have just used the copied 747's for domestic flights only to pass the patent law issues. This way domestic flights would have safer newer planes. But i guess, as you mentioned it must not be that simple to copy the 747's successfully.

Actually, it's not easy to copy airliners. If it were, Iran Air could copy the parts they need to maintain their airplanes. They can't! It's not about patent laws - Iran Air already gets copied 747 parts from China and they still don't work.
Besides, why copy a 747 - a plane that was designed in the 1960s? If Iran had the know-how, they should design a unique airliner.

Dont tell me that they just buy the parts from china. I have been following irans air industry for 18 years now. If you studied them you will see that the 747 due ro their importance were devouted resources for local production. Yet as Iran cannot put all its resources on all kinds of planes, the 737 a smaller plane from Iran Air was rather scraped years ago. You can see in the exhibition center at mehrhabad. The 747 has gone through complete rebuild phases many times now and they are important to both Irans commercial and military sides. Just check out the airline page in the last years to see their complete overhauls. |
