It not only houses a wide range of animals, reptiles and birds but the garden maintained is no less than any of the botanical gardens. My grandparents referred to this place as “Khas Bangale” / Private Bungalow or the Maharajahs. ![]() ![]() The zoo is 100 years old started by Chamarajendra Wodeyar in 1892. Now it is managed by the Zoo Authority of Karnataka. Mysore zoo is place for a fun filled outing as well as a place to learn more about the behavior of animals and birds. Magically misty mornings
![]() While the showers have not been keeping regular date with the city, the charm and romance is not lost yet. Misty mornings have enticed the joggers, walkers and lazy ones all the same, says Preethi Nagaraj A woman offers puja to a Peepul tree atop Chamundi Hill in Mysore. Even the biggest bag of lazy bones will find the mornings in this heritage city, most beautiful. Ask the joggers in the city and they will tell you how, instead of acting as a deterrant, the mist fills them with more energy to run the extra mile. Rohit Shetty, who often walks on Kukkarahalli tank bund, says he has never been tempted to skip his morning walk. “It is tempting to snuggle up and sleep. But, once you drink on the beauty of nature here, you feel you are missing something if you don’t come here every single morning,” says the father-of-two, who is in mid forties now. For Pratima Dikshit, who has made Mysore her temporary home on a sabbatical till she finishes her stint with Yoga at Gokulam, city has much to offer. “It was crowded on Friday morning, just like any growing city which grapples with its identities -- of religion and modernity. Yet, climbing the Chamundi Hills was a experience by itself. I wouldn’t trade it for anything on earth!” she says. Coffee, herbal juices, spicy breakfast, steamy idlis and crispy hot dosas -- Mysore mornings are worth every minute spent in the open. Enjoy while it lasts! ©DHNS |
