The change better come fast as the young and the talented youngsters think twice about relocating to chennai as they feel the city is lil low on the entertaintment quotient. I had a client from singapore who was surprised to find that there are only a handful of discos and pubs for a city of this size. I had to defend my city by showing him the cultural aspect of the city but that did impress him but he still felt the entertainment must be encourage.

Stand alone pubs and discos must be allowed to function in the city.

HFO was KD brothers - one of the initial ventures. They threatened the Aruna Inn owner and bull dozed their way in.

But JJ forced it to close.

But HFO was the most popular at that time.

we have plenty of pubs - only that they are in most five star hotels.

Bikes and Barrels, Geoffreys, Li Royal Meridian Flames, Star Rocks (Rajinikanth's own pub), each five star hotel has a good pub. Discos and dance floors was banned during the DMK period in the 70's i think.

Night fever in Chennai

A popular night club in the heart of the city recently celebrated its ninth anniversary with a line-up of activities that left the revellers begging for more.

Kicking things into top gear with a fashion show that featured some of the hottest models from Chennai and beyond, the gathering was a jam-packed event, populated by high-fliers, PYTs, movers and shakers from across the city.

The ladies were the centre of attention as they showcased some uber-hip ensembles and accessories for all seasons.

Priya was a showstealer with her sexy, multihued evening dress that stopped folks in their tracks. Aaliyah and Diana also raised the temperature with their sultry summer dresses, while Arpita opted for a sensuous black outfit.

There is running dispute between the labor dept and shop owners in malls & T Nagar / Purasawakkam traders.

The labor dept insists that the shift total time should not exceed 8 working hours, whereas, in practice, they work for close to 14 to 16 hours / day.

This and police permission hampers night time opening. Many petrol bunks are being robbed at nights and the Police does not want such situation in malls.

The groovy cruise

Quote:
Cruise bashes are common enough in the party capitals of the world — recently, Chennai played host to its first mid-sea party organised by AMET.

Adults, decked in their beachwear, sipped wine and later sizzled on the dance floor.

The ambience was uber-luxe. It’s a double treat for Chennai party lovers as they get to party on sea and until early morning.

Rajesh Ramachandran, vice chairman of AMET shipping, the organiser of the parties, says, “Most party destinations in the city close down by 10 — 10.30, but those rules do not apply on cruise parties as we sail in international waters. The party goes on till late.”

The concept has come as a breath of fresh air for those who wished for a better party scene in the city. Rajesh adds, “The youngsters are our main target and we are glad to begin a new trend in the city.”

Television actor Tinku was seen attending one of these mid-sea parties, along with his family and friends.

“This is the second time I am attending a cruise party — I had been to one in Dubai some time ago. The entire experience is different and there are many activities that can be planned out. The hosts were great and made sure that all our demands were met.”

Tinku was so much into the partying spirit that he and his friends did not mind spending some extra bucks. “They were auctioning this navigation map signed by Miss India Kanishka, and we bought it for `32,000. This is the first time I have done this and it was so much fun.”

Even the fashion show organised on the ship was different. “Walking on a ship is way more difficult than walking on the floor but the models carried it off really well,” says fashion choreographer Ganesh Gurung.

Talking about such parties, he says, “It’s a new experience all together. Yes, it’s expensive but that way you keep the riff-raff crowd at bay. It’s safe and everybody has a good time. The best part is that you don’t have to stop by 10.30 pm. My fashion show started only by 1 am.”

The organisers believe that not many players might want to join the bandwagon. Rajesh says, “Well, we are finding it difficult to get the concept across. It might not jump-up in the near future and I have my doubts about new players coming in.”

But for now, the party anthem is, Please don’t stop the music.

@Raji7373,
Now that you have kick started it. Why cant the govt give liquor permits for 5 star hotels. Even the grand chola is not able to serve permit for the first few months due to archaic rules set by the govt of tamil nadu.

Actually, there are plenty of news coming up especially in Chennai Times(ToI) and Metroplus..

Its just that no one is posting those things here..

P.S: I generally don't care much about such news items.. Hence, I just skip them from posting here.

two weeks back was in bangalore... u can easily get all types of liquor from local to international at major malls where they have allocated some space exclusively for it... like duty free shop at chennai airport... wish at least we have shops like these in chennai... many prefer going to costly pubs here rather than buying them at Tasmac which is well understandable..
